The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) has announced an almost entirely new Board of Directors, including Brad Fox, current GenXt Chair, who has been elected National President unopposed.

The new generation of directors includes other GenXt leaders, Adam Smith from Western Australia who takes up the post of National Deputy President and Michael Nowak from Queensland who takes on the role of Queensland Director. Other directors include Kevin Richardson, TAS Director; David Sutherland, SA/NT Director and Kenn Williams, WA Director. Three previous directors – Dennis Bateman, National Treasurer, Esther Althaus, VIC Director and Marc Bineman, NSW/ACT Director remain on the Board in their current roles.

Mr Fox said it was an honour and a privilege to be elected National President. “I know I can count on my fellow directors and also on the wisdom and experience of previous directors to help me in the role,” he said.

Mr Fox also paid tribute to outgoing board members and former National President, Jim Taggart. “The previous board worked enormously hard and Jim has been a dedicated and passionate president,” he said. “We have very big shoes to fill.”

In his first address to members, Mr Fox said the industry is facing mammoth changes over the next 18 months and if advisers want a say in how the future will look, they need to throw their support behind the AFA.

“If we were told by Joe Hockey that the only voice we have is our own, then we have to have bigger, louder voices,” he said. “We will win the battle for the hearts and minds of consumers but only if we are prepared to fight that battle.”

Brad Fox is a financial adviser operating his own practice, Foxes Wealth, in Victoria.
