The SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia (SPAA) CEO Andrea Slattery has been appointed to the Board of the association. This role as Managing Director will assist Andrea to continue to build SPAA’s vision to be one of the leading professional associations in Australia.

Her appointment, which takes effect from 31 May 2013, was ratified at the last board meeting.

The chairman of SPAA, Andrew Hamilton, says: “Andrea has been a magnificent contributor to SPAA as a founder and CEO, and the board now firmly believes the time is right to appoint her as an executive director.

“The SMSF sector faces many challenges going forward and this measure will allow the CEO and the Board to provide genuine strategic direction and encourages all board members to be strategically focused.

Mrs Slattery says: “I am both honored and delighted that the SPAA directors have decided to appoint me to the board. It reflects both their confidence in me and, more broadly, the ability of my team to build on SPAA’s vision for its members.

“Good governance now requires the chief executive to be on the board to ensure there is joint ownership of the strategy between the directors and the senior management.”

She says SPAA continues to enjoy a growth phase in membership with its status as a thought leader making membership much sought after by SMSF specialists in the marketplace.

“So it is an opportune time to join the board, especially at a time when there are myriad changes happening in our industry, to focus on nurturing SPAA’s vision and continue to develop best practice for the SMSF sector. ”

Mrs Slattery was one of the founders of SPAA and was a Board Director for the first three years after the organisation was established in January 2003.
