Parametric Portfolio Associates Australia has appointed Susan Bu to a newly created position, Analyst, Product Management, reflecting the US fund manager’s strong growth since establishing an Australian office in 2012.

Joining from State Street, Susan will report to Parametric’s Australian CEO, Chris Briant.

Bu will be responsible for managing the intra-day requirements of Parametric’s clients, as well as managers who participate in its Tax-Managed Centralised Portfolio Management program. Her responsibilities will also involve the setting up and implementation of new client and manager relationships.

Briant says: “We are excited about recruiting someone of Susan’s calibre to the Australian team to help meet the demands of our growing business. Susan has a wonderful technical skills base and, just as importantly, a client-centric focus with a willingness to innovate, making her a perfect fit for our culture.”

Bu will also work closely with Parametric’s Australian team on business strategy and help continue to highlight the value of an investment approach focused on after-tax returns and implementation efficiency, which has successfully differentiated Parametric in the Australian market.

Briant says: “We need to expand the team to help support locally the breadth of capabilities we offer the Australian market, including our Tax-Managed suite – Indexing, Factor and CPM, and our Systematic Alpha Defensive Equity and Emerging Markets approaches.”

Bu says: “It’s a great opportunity to work with a firm with a proven track record in the US and strong momentum in Australia. I believe Parametric can make a real difference to superannuation funds and their members and think it’s important to start with the problems that funds haven’t solved yet, or at least haven’t solved properly.

“It’s good to be working with a firm with custom capabilities rather than simply ‘off the shelf’ products and processes, and I am looking forward to working with Parametric to help deliver these solutions to the market.”
Before joining Parametric, Bu worked as a derivatives analyst at State Street after joining from a boutique funds management firm, where she worked as an equity analyst.

Susan has a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Finance and Accounting) and a Masters of Finance from the University of New South Wales, and is studying for her CFA qualification.
