Nikko Asset Management Australia Managing Director, Sam Hallinan, has announced the integration of the firm’s Global Fixed Income teams to further enhance its global investment framework.

Nikko AM’s Australian Fixed Income team is set to be integrated with the firm’s London-based Global Fixed Income team, operating as a single centre of excellence and globally connected hub that will work closely with all regions and functions.

The decision comes following the recent news that Suncorp, former parent company of what is now Nikko AM Australia, has decided to reshape its investment strategy and operating model.

As part of Nikko AM’s strategic restructuring, Andre Severino has been appointed as the sole Head of Global Fixed Income. This role will be based in London, where Severino will lead a team of 13 investment professionals across London and Sydney.

“At Nikko AM, we firmly believe that developed market fixed income solutions are becoming less regionally oriented, and that shared global insight is the key to fixed income alpha. This decision is reflective of that philosophy,” said Hallinan.

Following recent success in raising offshore assets via Australian domiciled securitisation and private debt strategies, John Sorrell and Leo Leslie will join the global credit division of the Global Fixed Income team. In addition Darren Langer and Chris Rands will join its rates division and will maintain primary responsibility for the Australian fixed income and insurance assets. The restructure will see two analysts and one portfolio manager leave the Australian team.

Nikko AM Australia’s current head of Australian Fixed Income, James Alexander, will relocate to Singapore to join the firm’s Global Multi-Asset team.  “James has proven to be both solutions and client oriented. His move to Singapore reflects our strategic focus on providing global investment solutions,” said Hallinan.
