The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) has announced it will be introducing a Meet the Mentors session at the AFA National Adviser Conference on the Gold Coast next week.

Conference Chair, Michael Nowak, said Meet the Mentors offers less experienced advisers an opportunity for a private coaching session with a seasoned AFA adviser. “We are very pleased to be able to offer advisers a forum in which to meet long-standing AFA members and benefit from their depth of experience, insight and knowledge,” Mr Nowak said. “AFA mentors have so much to offer in terms of practical advice and they have welcomed this opportunity to give back to their profession.”

Mr Nowak says advisers and mentors choose how they would like the session to run. “It may be as simple as the mentor offering an empathetic ear, or as complicated as discussing a complex business problem. Advisers and mentors can also decide whether or not they would like to continue the mentoring relationship after Conference.”

Mentors include long-standing AFA members Russell Collins, OAM, Godfrey Phillips, Paul Kearney and Peter Graham.

Meet the Mentors will run alongside the popular Meet the Innovators and Meet the Professionals roundtables on Thursday 12 October and advisers can book a private coaching session via the Conference registration process. Those who have already registered to attend are receiving an email outlining how to book a Meet the Mentors session.

Meet the Innovators and Meet the Professionals are 40-minute power sessions of 10 to 20 delegates, conducted by a leading professional or innovator. Individuals chosen to lead the sessions have been selected because they have a unique insight or competitive advantage, or have brought an innovative idea to help support and grow the financial advice market.

Mr Nowak said the roundtables offer the peer-to-peer learning which the AFA believes is so vital to the ongoing professional development of advisers. “Learning from each other and from professionals and innovators who are putting their stamp on our profession is extremely valuable,” he said. “We believe these sessions help build and strengthen the sense of community that is a hallmark of our Association.”

The Conference will also feature keynote speaker Sir Bob Geldof, who will be talking about a higher social purpose and an address from the Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, the Hon. Kelly O’Dwyer on her vision for financial advice. To register for the 2017 AFA National Adviser Conference, visit http://afaconference.com.au/registration/
