Mr. McDermott is responsible for leading the strategy, project management office, customer, digital, marketing, and data functions. He reports to Vince Watt, MetLife Australia Acting Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. McDermott was most recently Group Executive, Workers Compensation with EML, responsible for the firm’s workers compensation business line nationally. He was previously Head of General Insurance at Westpac, and before that spent 11 years in senior leadership roles with Suncorp, culminating as Executive General Manager, Personal Insurance Distribution. Mr. McDermott played a pivotal role in building Suncorp’s market-leading commercial insurance capability, including the acquisition and integration of AMP’s General Insurance Distribution business and the development and launch of Resilium Insurance Broking.
