PAN-Tribal Asset Management and London-based Ashmore Investment Management have announced a collaboration to bring access to Emerging Markets opportunities to Australian investors. This has facilitated the recent launch of the Ashmore Emerging Markets Equity Fund.

Ashmore is an Emerging Markets specialist, managing A$123 billion in Emerging Markets assets across fixed income, equities and alternatives.

Although UK-domiciled, Ashmore has strong links to Australia. It first launched as a division of ANZ Banking Group in 1992 and, in 1999, senior management completed a buy-out and renamed the business. In October 2006, parent company Ashmore Group plc was listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Ashmore’s investment philosophy and process have been unchanged since the foundation of the firm. They have withstood the test of time, notably through the EM debt crises of the mid and late-1990s. The experienced and extensive global team of investment professionals enables wide coverage of the Emerging Markets universe of close to 60 countries.

Commenting on the collaboration, PAN-Tribal CEO Colin Woods said, “We’re delighted to work with Ashmore.”

“As an investment manager focused exclusively on Emerging Markets and with one of the longest and most successful track records in this asset class, I believe Ashmore has a number of core capabilities that are key distinguishing factors relative to its peers.”

Michael Winter, Head of Pan Asia for Ashmore said, “In Australia, Ashmore is better known in the institutional market; this alliance with PAN-Tribal marks the firm’s first foray into working with the financial intermediary market here in Australia, which we are very excited about.”

The recently launched Ashmore Emerging Markets Equity Fund possesses an impressive underlying track record and has quickly gained the attention of market participants, particularly in the managed accounts space. In a short time, it has amassed funds under management of $70 million.

The Fund is currently available on BT Panorama, Hub24 and netwealth. It has been awarded a ‘Recommended’ rating by Zenith, an SQM rating of ‘Superior’, and is currently being reviewed by Lonsec as part of its current sector review.

“PAN-Tribal Asset Management aims to create wealth for investors by sourcing the best financial products from the best investment managers worldwide,” said Woods.

The current PAN-Tribal line up consists of investment capabilities managed by Davis Advisors (Global Equities), ATLAS Infrastructure (Global Listed Infrastructure) and Barwon Investment Partners (Global Listed Private Equity & Healthcare Property).

“The inclusion of an Emerging Market specialist such as Ashmore was a natural progression,” said Woods.
