<h3>BlueCove, the London-based scientific fixed income manager appoints Ty Thurgood as Head of Sales, Australia. In this new role, Sydney-based Thurgood will lead BlueCove’s relationships with pension funds, private banks, funds of funds, institutional investors, investment consultants and other wholesale investors. Thurgood joins from Morgan Stanley and previously worked at Eaton Vance where he served as institutional business head for Australia and New Zealand.</h3>
<p>Ulrich Koall, Head of Business Development, BlueCove, said: “BlueCove applies an active scientific approach to fixed income investing, providing both a complement and alternative to traditional fixed income investing. We believe this investment style is set to be a defining development for the US$60 trillion fixed-income industry.”</p>
<p>Ty Thurgood added: “I am very excited to join BlueCove and look forward to representing the firm in Australia from my base in Sydney. Australian investors have a long history of sophisticated and innovative approaches to asset management and portfolio construction. I look forward to sharing our modern approach to fixed income with the Australian institutional client base and building on BlueCove’s existing business and relationships in the region.”</p>
<p>Scientific investing provides investors with both a complement and an alternative to the traditional, active discretionary investment process that has dominated active fixed income management for decades. Potential advantages for investors include an increased probability of repeatable outcomes, a technology-enabled increase in investment breadth, increased investment process transparency, excess returns that tend to exhibit a low correlation with those of discretionary managers, and a medium-term opportunity to harvest alpha from an underrepresented investment methodology.</p>
