ASX-listed specialist alternatives manager Regal Partners (ASX:RPL) has announced the appointment of Chris Champion as an independent Investment Committee member for Regal Funds Management’s recently launched Private Credit strategy.

Chris brings over 25 years’ experience in capital markets and investment banking, including 17 years at Goldman Sachs, where he was a Board Member of Goldman Sachs Australia, Managing Director and Head of the Financing Group for Goldman Sachs Australia and New Zealand and a member of Goldman’s ANZ Executive Management and Asia-Pacific Capital Committees. Chris is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Christian Beck Family Office.

Chris will join Regal’s existing credit investment committee members Jacob Poke (Portfolio Manager, Private Credit), Gavin George (Portfolio Manager, Private Credit) and Brendan O’Connor (CEO & Managing Director, Regal Partners).

The appointment of Chris to Regal’s credit investment committee follows a period of accelerated growth for Regal into the private credit sector, with the firm’s inaugural credit strategy, the Regal Private Credit Opportunities Fund, launching in October 2022. Managed by portfolio managers Jacob Poke and Gavin George, the Fund focuses on providing senior and mezzanine loans public and private companies in Australia and New Zealand, as well as asset backed loans and other opportunistic credit investments.

Commenting on Chris’s appointment, Brendan O’Connor, CEO & Managing Director of Regal Partners, said: “We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Chris to the investment committee for Regal’s private credit strategy. Chris brings an extensive amount of senior experience across capital raising, structuring, valuation and governance and will be an invaluable resource to the Regal team. We’re very much looking forward to leveraging his insights and knowledge base, developed over 25 years within the investment banking industry.

“We are continuing to see meaningful interest from our family office, high net worth and institutional investor networks in accessing the attractive risk-adjusted returns that Australian private credit can provide to investment portfolios. As one of Australia’s largest providers of capital to both private and public companies, Regal remains uniquely placed to be a significant provider of flexible capital solutions to the Australian market, covering opportunities across both debt and equity.

“We continue to believe there remains a substantial growth opportunity within Australian and New Zealand private credit and we look forward to being a major participant in these markets as they continue to evolve.”

ASX-listed specialist alternatives manager Regal Partners (ASX:RPL) has announced the appointment of William Myer to Regal’s sales and distribution team, in a newly created role of Investment Director, Family Office and Private Clients.

Working alongside Rob Saunders (Head of Distribution) and Rebecca Fesq (Head of Client Business & Strategic Partnerships), William will be primarily responsible for continuing to further grow and expand Regal’s existing relationships and strong connections within the Australian family office sector and sophisticated, self directed private investor channel.

William previously spent 10 years at financial software firm Bloomberg across roles in London, New York and, most recently, Sydney, where he led Bloomberg’s Analytics division in Australia and NZ. Prior to Bloomberg, William held roles at investment manager Caledonia Investments, and at his family’s investment group, the Yulgilbar Group of Companies.

Commenting on William’s appointment, Rebecca Fesq, Regal’s Head of Client Business and Strategic Partnerships said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming William into the Regal Partners team. His extensive industry knowledge and broad range of networks across the Australian family office sector will provide meaningful value both to the Regal Partners business and our existing investors.”

Regal Partners has continued to be well supported by the Australian family office sector, with all four asset classes managed by the business (long short equities, private markets, real and natural assets, and capital solutions) attracting strong investment flows from single and multi-family office investors. In January 2023, the business announced a binding commitment from a prominent Australian family office to invest $200m (with the option to invest a further $100m) in their recently launched private credit strategy, the Regal Private Credit Opportunities Fund.

“I’m very excited to be joining Regal and to work alongside such a talented and experienced team” said William. “The alternatives space in Australia is continuing to grow, providing sophisticated investors with increasingly attractive opportunities to earn attractive, uncorrelated, risk-adjusted returns. Regal’s marketleading product suite across long/short equities, private markets, real assets and capital solutions provide a terrific access point to a range of alternative investment opportunities and I’m looking forward to contributing to their continued growth.”
