TPT Wealth has become a signatory to the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

“Adoption of the PRI gives clients confidence that our investment practices are aligned with our business values,” said Alan Logan, General Manager of TPT Wealth.

“Taking this step allows us to strengthen relationships with new and existing investors such as universities, family offices and individual investors who prioritise sustainable outcomes. It also allows us to form important new partnerships with like-minded clients,” Mr Logan added.

The PRI’s six principles

The PRI’s six principles call for signatories to integrate responsible investment into their investment decisions:

Principle 1: Incorporate environmental, sustainability and governance (ESG) issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.

Principle 2: Be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into ownership policies and practices.

Principle 3: Seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which a signatory invests.

Principle 4: Promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.

Principle 5: Collaborate to enhance effectiveness in implementing the Principles.

Principle 6: Report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.

So far, the PRI has attracted over 5000 signatories, mostly investment managers, across 135 countries representing USD$121 trillion. There are 209 signatories from Australia.

“We’re pleased to welcome TPT Wealth as a signatory to the PRI,” said David Atkin, CEO at the Principles for Responsible Investment.

“Now more than ever, it’s vital for responsible investors to come together and work towards common goals, for the benefit of the planet and our society. We look forward to working alongside TPT Wealth to realise these goals.”

On a practical level, TPT Wealth’s commitment to the PRI underscores a number of changes to the business over coming months. TPT Wealth will include ESG considerations in investment decisions, and allows the business to form new alliances and joint ventures with firms that are also PRI signatories.

In addition to adopting the PRI, over the past six months TPT Wealth has taken other measures to understand the impact of our operations on the environment.

TPT Wealth is pleased to be following the lead of parent company MyState Limited. As a proud Tasmanian company, we understand the importance of our operations mitigating our environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts.

This year’s MyState Limited annual report includes disclosures about our carbon footprint, made in line with the Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures’ (TCFD) requirements. The TCFD allows organisations to make consistent with and comparable climate-related disclosures.

TPT Wealth looks forward to updating the market on further initiatives to support improved economic outcomes in the future.

Experienced finance industry executive Bryce Harding has recently been appointed to lead a major expansion of TPT Wealth’s commercial lending business.

With more than 33 years’ experience in the sector including managerial roles in Sydney and Tasmania, Mr. Harding heads up an 11-member team of highly respected relationship managers, with a goal to become the largest commercial lender in the state.

With a proud 134-year history, TPT Wealth has recently updated its product range, as well as investing in its people. This includes employing seven new relationship managers, plus support staff, to provide face-to-face assistance for its customers.

Part of the MyState Limited group, TPT Wealth’s ambitious growth strategy is based on its competitive product offerings, personalised service and the ability to make decisions locally.

Mr Harding said TPT Wealth’s speed of decision-making sets it apart from major banks and other financiers.

“Not all lending is the same. Non-bank lenders have an important role to play, particularly in support of small to medium-sized businesses. Our big advantage is that we make lending decisions locally and quickly, aiming to provide conditional lending approval in a matter of weeks, not months, which can be the case with some of the major banks.”

Mr Harding said he was pleased to be appointed as TPT Wealth’s Head of Commercial Lending at what is an exciting time for Tasmanian small to medium-sized businesses.

“While the big banks are withdrawing from Tasmania, TPT Wealth is expanding. Small to medium-sized businesses are the backbone of the economy, and we see tremendous opportunities for growth. Business owners need to know when they seek finance, decisions can be made locally by people who understand their needs.”

Mr. Harding was most recently the manager of the Murdoch Clarke Mortgage Fund (MCMF), repositioning it in the Tasmanian market and significantly growing its lending and investment portfolios. He previously held senior positions with Westpac, and a forerunner to MyState Bank, Island State Credit Union.

Mr. Harding has also served on the State Council of the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) and was a Director of the MFAA National Board for three years.

TPT Wealth, the trustee and wealth management business of the MyState Limited group, today announced that the TPT Long Term Fund and the TPT Select Mortgage Fund have been awarded a ‘superior’ rating by independent research house SQM Research.

The ratings recognise TPT Wealth’s highly experienced investment team, strong credit credentials and more than 40-year long track record of funds management.

Established in 1887, TPT Wealth provides a broad range of contemporary financial services to individuals and corporate clients including Managed Investments, Commercial Lending, and Trustee Services, which include estate planning, administration and charitable trusts.

The two newly-rated income funds offered by TPT Wealth seek to provide capital stability and competitive monthly income returns via diversified investments across a range of fixed interest type assets. The major asset class for each of the funds is mortgages. They also hold residential and mortgage-backed securities and other asset backed securities.

The TPT Long Term Fund is suitable for investors wanting a relatively secure investment and regular monthly income returns over at least a 9-12 month term, while the Select Mortgage Fund is suitable for investors wanting a competitive regular monthly income over at least a 12 month period.

Alan Logan, General Manager TPT Wealth said: “We’re both excited and proud to announce our TPT Long Term Fund and Select Mortgage Fund have been rated ‘superior’ by SQM Research. Since 1887, we have been part of the Australian financial landscape. The two funds have a strong track record of managing mortgage funds and generating positive returns for investors.”

“With interest rates in low single digits, yield-hungry investors face the challenge of finding investment strategies that offer a satisfactory level of income while balancing their need to protect their investment from market fluctuations.

“Key customer groups where our investment proposition is really resonating strongly include for-purpose firms such as non-government schools, aged care firms, archdioceses and not-for-profit organisations. TPT Wealth is continuing to build our distribution team to meet this demand from a very broad range of customers,” concluded Mr Logan.

This recognises TPT Wealth’s highly experienced investment team, strong credit credentials and more than 40-year long track record of fund management.

Established in 1887, TPT Wealth provides a broad range of contemporary financial services to individuals and corporate clients including managed investments, commercial lending, and trustee services, which includes estate planning, administration and charitable trusts.

The TPT Fixed Term Fund aims to provide investors with capital stability and regular, competitive income distributions through investment in a diversified portfolio of instruments, including direct mortgages, and residential and mortgage-backed securities.

Launched in 1977, the fund has provided Australians with regular income for more than 40 years, a track record that SQM recognised in its research rating.

TPT Wealth’s Acting General Manager, Todd Kennedy, said: “We’re both excited and proud to announce our TPT Fixed Term Fund has been rated ‘superior’ by SQM Research. The fund has a strong track record of managing mortgage funds and generating positive returns for investors.”

Despite a difficult 12 months in investment markets, the fund protected investors from the worst of the pandemic induced market shock, returning 1.5% p.a.* in the year to 31 March 2021, outperforming its benchmark index – the Bloomberg AusBond Bank Bill Index – by 1.39%.

“In these times of market volatility many investors are seeking out both income and capital stability. The TPT Fixed Term Fund aims to deliver this peace of mind, while continually generating income over the long-term,” Mr Kennedy said.

“We are seeing an increase in demand for income products such as the TPT Fixed Term Fund, particularly from wholesale investors and financial advisers, who are seeking a return on the money they’re managing without exposing the portfolio to unnecessary volatility.”
