The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA), in conjunction with TAL Life Limited, has announced this year’s finalists in the 2012 Female Excellence in Advice Award (the Award).

Anne Graham, McPhail HLG Financial Planning (Melbourne)

Catherine Robson, Affinity Private (Melbourne)

Christine Hornery, Financial Management Solutions (Central NSW Coast)

Christine Swanson, Prominent Financial Planner (Adelaide)

Deborah Kent, Integra Financial Planning (Sydney)

Dianne Charman, Jade Financial Group (Brisbane)

The winner will be awarded a scholarship for an executive leadership course at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) valued at over $5000.

Now in its second year, the Award was established to encourage more women to consider financial advice as a career, to champion those who excel at it and to take the first step in tackling the gender gap that exists in retirement savings, wealth protection and life insurance.

Brett Clark, CEO, TAL Retail Life, said he is delighted with this year’s response to the Award.

“We are very proud of our involvement with the AFA in the Female Excellence in Advice Award. The ability to showcase such talent and dedication is truly rewarding. Our finalists are a real inspiration to our industry,” he said. “They are all doing outstanding work and it is clear they are shaping the future of financial advice.”

Although the criteria is challenging, AFA CEO Richard Klipin said it is bringing the best female advisers out to showcase their contribution to their clients, communities and networks.

“There are female advisers building best practice models within larger organisations; joint ventures with suppliers of accounting or legal services and women who not only have their own businesses but have started them from scratch,” he said. “Many of these women look for ways to get other women involved in the profession by coaching and mentoring within their organisations and beyond. Women across the profession are stepping up and making huge contributions to their clients and their communities.”

The winner of the Award will be announced at the AFA Conference on the Gold Coast on 30 October 2012.
