The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) today announced that the Cairns Convention Centre will host Australia’s premier conference for professional financial advisers – the AFA National Conference – from 11-14 October 2014.

AFA CEO, Brad Fox, said he expects next year’s conference to build on the outstanding success and record attendance of the AFA’s 2013 National Conference.

“Far North Queensland is an amazing destination, so when we combine that with what we believe is the best development curriculum for financial advisers, planners, key support staff and licensees in the country, we will create an unbeatable event,” he said.

Mr Fox said the AFA has also released its new event theme for 2014: Innovate – Think. Create. Act. “Financial advice is at an exciting inflexion point where the value of advice combined with amazing client service creates a winning formula,” he said. “We have seen, through the AFA financial adviser awards program, that innovation around client service, practice efficiency and communication strategies can be game changers.”

Over the course of the year the AFA will be leading the advice market to think, create and act on initiatives that drive their careers and their businesses forward. “This will be a central theme of the 2014 National Conference,” Mr Fox said.

The AFA conference is renowned for combining the benefits of technical learning and practical application of advice skills.

“We often hear from advisers and corporate partners about what they think sets the AFA National Conference apart from other events in the market,” Mr Fox said. “And it is partly about the opportunities we offer for peer-to-peer learning which encourage the sharing of ideas and solutions through networking opportunities, it is partly about the sessions we offer which demonstrate the practical application of deep knowledge, but it is mostly about the culture of our conference.”

This culture stimulates professional development while simultaneously encouraging advisers to enjoy themselves. “Advisers are working hard enough and taking time out to develop fresh thinking and celebrate what has already been achieved is a healthy part of self development,” he said.

Mr Fox said Cairns is a wonderful destination and with discount carriers already offering great airfares for October 2014, the AFA is encouraging delegates to bring their families along to enjoy the best of what Far North Queensland has to offer.

“With flights available from $139 one-way from Sydney, $149 from Melbourne and just $209 from Perth, Cairns is an affordable destination,” he said, “And it has a lot to offer – the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, adrenalin pursuits like bungee jumping, white water rafting and quad-biking, conservation areas and National Parks, and now, the AFA National Conference.”

Registrations at the Pre-Christmas early bird rate of $995 for GenXt Adviser Members and $1,250 for Full Adviser Members are limited to only 100 and can be made at http://www.afa.asn.au/eventsawards/national-conference
