As demand for tailored and quality financial guidance grows, the need for skilled advisers to serve super fund members has never been greater. In response, Industry Fund Services (IFS), one of Australia’s largest advice licensees to super funds is proud to introduce a groundbreaking initiative: the Independent Adviser Licensing Model. This comprehensive solution is designed specifically for independent financial advisers who want to specialise in delivering advice to industry super fund members who have unique advice needs.

Data published by The Treasury indicates that more than 2.5 million Australians will reach retirement within the next ten years*. This underscores the importance of ensuring pre-retirees receive the advice they need to feel confident and prepared as they transition out of the workforce. It also highlights the need for super funds to be equipped to effectively support this growing cohort.

Adrian Gervasoni, Executive Manager of Advice Services at IFS, said super fund members often seek guidance focused on education, decision-making, and goal setting rather than complex portfolio management or tax structuring.

“However, many advisers find it challenging to adapt their traditional advice models to meet these expectations profitably and compliantly”, Mr. Gervasoni said.

“IFS’ new licensing solution bridges this gap by enabling independent advisers to deliver tailored advice under a trusted AFSL framework, supported by an efficient technology platform, robust compliance and training resources.”

Key Benefits for Advisers

Aligned Advice Delivery: Provide guidance that meets members’ priorities and super fund expectations.

Efficient Service/Operating Model: Leverage IFS’ technology platform to make servicing super fund members profitable and scalable.

Trusted AFSL Framework: Operate confidently with strong compliance support.

Specialised Training & Tools: Access resources designed for industry super advice.

Referral Opportunities: Benefit from partnerships with leading industry super funds.

This licensing solution represents a significant step toward closing the advice gap and ensuring Australians have access to the expertise they need for a secure financial future.

The pathway is not intended to displace or compete with existing super fund referral arrangements.

To ensure a high-quality and measured rollout, IFS will launch 20 licensed spots as part of the initial phase. An Expression of Interest (EOI) process will run throughout February, with information briefings scheduled to walk financial advisers through the operating model, standards, and referral pathways.
