Marc Whitworth of Macquarie Bank has been awarded the Gwen Fletcher Memorial Award for the summer semester by the FAAA.

Mr Whitworth is a private banker at Macquarie Bank based in Melbourne. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Financial Planning and Finance from Deakin University.

Named after the late ‘First Lady of Financial Planning’, the award recognises the highest performing student in the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Certification Unit (CFP C) for each semester, with demonstrable dedication to providing high-quality financial advice. The CFP® designation is the largest and best-recognised financial planning designation globally.

The other financial advisers who successfully completed the CFP certification this semester alongside Mr Whitworth were: Alex Porter, David Cooper, Rex Wang, James Middleton, Jeremy Zenwirth, Karissa Penna, Luke Dean, Manpreet Banga, Mitch Buckley, Nick Churkovic, Paul Johnston, Priscilla OSay N-tim and Samuel Gall.

Anne Palmer, FAAA’s general manager – education, highlighted Mr Whitworth’s achievement as well as acknowledging the efforts of the people that completed CFP certification this semester.

“Those who take part in the CFP® Certification Program put in a significant amount of work and a lot of effort, so it has been a consistent challenge to select a recipient of the award each semester.

“Marc has demonstrated strong dedication and commitment to his studies, all while maintaining consistent high standards with his client work. On behalf of the FAAA, I congratulate him on reaching the highest level of qualification in financial planning.

“The CFP Certification Program is an integral part of the FAAA’s efforts to support technical excellence in financial planning and equip planners with the skills and confidence needed to provide the best quality financial advice to Australians. As a result, we are seeing more members taking part in the course, seeking to upskill, which is ultimately a good thing for the financial planning profession as a whole,” Ms Palmer says.

The CFP designation is the most respected financial planning designation globally, with more than 223,700 CFP professionals worldwide. It is a symbol of excellence for financial planners around the world who are actively committed through higher education and accountability to adhering to world-class professional and ethical standards. The CFP designation offers financial planning professionals a way to differentiate themselves in the profession.

IRESS announced today that Airlie Funds Management (Airlie) has implemented the IRESS Portfolio System (IPS).

Airlie is the newly formed boutique investment management firm headed by former head of equities at Perpetual, John Sevior and former Treasury Group Managing Director, David Cooper.

Sam Marshall, Manager of Wholesale Portfolio Products at IRESS said, “IRESS has long standing relationships with key members of Airlie and is pleased to welcome the new manager onboard.

“We worked closely with Airlie throughout the implementation to deliver an integrated order management and settlement solution combined with rich portfolio management features. IPS’ tax analysis capabilities were also important to support increasing client requests to consider tax as part of the investment process.”

Airlie’s Managing Director David Cooper said, “Given our past relationship with IRESS, it was a simple decision. IRESS is a leader in investment technology and we know from experience they deliver the service and support we need for our business.”
