Schroders Australia has appointed an experienced business development manager, Eliza Weaving, to the intermediary team.

Ms Weaving will cover the Victorian, South Australian, West Australian and Tasmanian regions and will report directly to Schroders’ head of intermediary, Jude Fernandez.

Ms Weaving joins from Capital Group where she was distribution director, a position she held for five years. Prior to that she was national distribution manager at SG Hiscock, and served in similar roles at Equity Trustees, Vanguard Investments and AXA.

Mr Fernandez says that Ms Weaving’s extensive history of working in the investment management industry will be an asset to the wider team as Schroders moves to further broaden its footprint in the intermediary market.

“Eliza is an experienced distribution manager with a proven track record in the investment management industry. With over two decades of knowledge and expertise in various business development and distribution roles, I am confident she will make an immediate impact on our team and our clients.

Ms Weaving has Bachelor of Economics from Monash University, a Diploma of Superannuation Management from Macquarie University, and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Following a strategic review of retail distribution at both Equity Trustees and SG Hiscock & Company (SGH), the businesses have made the joint decision that retail distribution for all SGH and LaSalle funds, previously managed by Equity Trustees, will transition to SGH.

As a result, a number of the members of the Equity Trustees Corporate Trustee Services business unit distribution team, led by Eliza Weaving, will move across to SGH, ensuring a smooth transition for clients and advisers and continued development of the strong business relationship between the two companies.

Equity Trustees Limited will continue to act as Responsible Entity and Unit Registry for all SGH funds.

“After undertaking a review of the business’s priorities, we decided the time was right for the change,” said Harvey Kalman, Executive General Manager of Equity Trustees Corporate Trustee Services.

“Re-orienting our business will allow us to better serve our clients, meet our strategic priorities and take advantage of opportunities in our core areas of strength.

“Our colleagues at SGH are doing the same and the complementary nature of our services and our business relationship made the option of more closely coupling distribution with investment management an obvious choice,” he said.

“Michael is a Senior Executive with more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He has had demonstrated success in developing and executing distribution strategy across retail/wholesale, high net worth, private wealth and multi-manager markets,” Ms Weaving said.

He joins Equity Trustees from Certitude Global Investments, where he managed territories including NSW and Queensland, and New Zealand, over the past five years.

Mr Akele’s background includes consulting independently to boutique fund managers through his own business, and various roles with Australian Unity Investments, Challenger and Morningstar.

Mr Akele will be based in Sydney and will be responsible for the development of adviser relationships in NSW and the distribution of funds for the investment managers represented by Equity Trustees including Dundas, La Salle and SG Hiscock.

“Michael’s proven track record of building strong relationships and achieving sales targets makes him a great addition to the sales team,” said Ms Weaving.

Mr Akele holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Wollongong, a Diploma in Financial Planning from RMIT and CFP certification from the Financial Planning Association.

Mr Sleiman will report to Eliza Weaving, general manager, distribution partners – funds management and will be based in Sydney.

He will be responsible for the development of adviser relationships in NSW and the distribution of funds for the investment managers represented by Equity Trustees including Dundas, La Salle and SG Hiscock.

He joins Equity Trustees from Perennial Investment Partners where he was an investment specialist responsible for business development and product distribution across various asset classes, in the NSW market.

Prior to this he was a market specialist associate at Commonwealth Bank.

“Paul’s experience in business development and product distribution in the NSW market makes him a good fit with the Equity Trustees distribution partners funds management team,” Ms Weaving said.

“This experience, as well as his proven track record in building and managing relationships, will contribute to building our presence in the NSW adviser market.”

Mr Sleiman holds a Bachelor of Business, Economics and Finance from University of Western Sydney, a RG146 Core 1 accreditation from the Stockbrokers Association of Australia and a Masters in Applied Finance from Kaplan.

Based in Melbourne, Ms Weaving will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic direction for the investment managers represented by Equity Trustees including SG Hiscock, LaSalle and Dundas. She will also support and manage the sales distribution team.

Ms Weaving joined Equity Trustees in March 2012 as a key account manager and has been instrumental in the growth of the funds management business for Equity Trustees’ co-branded funds.

With over 22 years’ experience in the financial services industry, including organisations such as Vanguard and AXA, Ms Weaving has worked in business development roles and become a solid business leader, Mr Kalman said.

“This internal appointment is crucial for our funds management business. Relationship management is key as our clients expect more value-add and support from their partners. Equity Trustees prides itself on creating robust succession plans and promoting from within,” Mr Kalman said.

Ms Weaving holds a Bachelor of Economics, Diploma of Superannuation Management and Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.
