                                    <description><![CDATA[<h3>The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) yesterday announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that Allan Reynolds, Executive General Manager – NZ + Direct at Steadfast and Megan Beer, Group Executive, Insurance at AMP will take over the positions of ANZIIF President and Deputy President effective immediately.</h3>
<p>Allan has held the position of Deputy President since 2016 and accepted the Presidency when Karl Armstrong stepped down at the end of his two year term. ‘I am excited to lead ANZIIF, as President, and work with the management team to realise the goals and vision of the organisation,’ said Allan. Prue Willsford, ANZIIF CEO paid tribute to Karl Armstrong ‘Karl has made a significant contribution to ANZIIF during a period of major change. He was also the first ANZIIF President from New Zealand.’</p>
<p>During the year, ANZIIF also welcomed Tim Plant, Group Executive, Self Insurance, Community and Innovation at icare and Donna Walker, Executive General Manager of Broker Business at iag. ‘We are pleased to welcome Tim and Donna, both of whom have a wealth of experience, to the ANZIIF Board. I am certain that their capabilities and knowledge of the industry will be of great benefit to ANZIIF,’ said Willsford.</p>

<p>ANZIIF CEO Prue Willsford and President Karl Armstrong also recognised a number of award winners and members for their contribution to ANZIIF and the insurance industry.</p>
<p>Peter E Daly AM was recognised with Honorary Membership for his extraordinary service to the insurance industry. Mr Daly was President, as well as CEO, of the Insurance Council of Australia, Chair of the Financial Ombudsman Service and formerly Chairman of AAMI Limited and Concord Group Limited. He was also Chairman of HDI-Gerling Australia Pty. Ltd. and a member of the Legal Practitioners Liability Committee in Victoria. In addition, he was Managing Director of Norwich Winterthur Group Limited and is currently Chairman at Australian Landscape Trust, which administers properties in Gippsland and Renmark concentrating on conservation and environment.</p>
<p>The annual ANZIIF Service Award was presented to ANZIIF Senior Associate John Peberdy. Mr Peberdy commenced work in the insurance industry in 1973 and throughout his career has generously contributed to a broad range of industry boards and activities including Chair of VMIA; Director of ARPC; Chairman of Stewards Insurance Services Pty Ltd; Deputy Chairman of Christian Super; Non-Executive Director of Protecsure Pty Ltd; Director of ICA; and Director and industry representative for the Financial Ombudsman Service. During the past five years, Mr Peberdy has supported ANZIIF by developing and facilitating various international workshops and seminars in China, Hong Kong and Melbourne for senior industry leaders and insurance technical specialists. In addition, Mr Peberdy was the first Chair of ANZIIF’s General Insurance Faculty Advisory Board and is a long-serving Australian Insurance Industry Awards judge.</p>
<p>The E.E. Vines Memorial Prize, awarded to the ANZIIF member who authored the most meritorious paper published in the Journal, ANZIIF’s quarterly publication, was presented to ANZIIF Fellow Dr Chris Wallace for his paper titled ‘Cyber Terrorism and Australia’s Terrorism Insurance Scheme’ which was published in Journal Vol. 39 No. 2.</p>

The Honorary Life Membership and ANZIIF Service Awards and the E E Vines Memorial Prizes were presented by ANZIIF President, Jonathon Fox, and CEO, Prue Willsford.</h3>
<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">Honorary Life Membership was awarded to former ANZIIF President, Duncan West. The ANZIIF Service Award was awarded to Julie Hill of Crombie Lockwood. Chris Rodd received The E E Vines Memorial Prize.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">“Duncan, Julie and Chris have each shown themselves to be outstanding members of the ANZIIF community and of the broader insurance community. They are worthy recipients of these awards and we are honored to bear witness to their achievements and contributions,” said Prue Willsford, CEO, ANZIIF.</p>
<h3>Honorary Life Membership</h3>
<p>Honorary Life Membership, an award recognising an extraordinary level of service to ANZIIF over an extended period of time on a national or international level, was awarded to Duncan West, a former ANZIIF Board President.</p>
<p>Mr West worked in the industry for over 30 years in Australia, the United Kingdom and India, including roles as CEO of Vero Insurance and CGU. Mr West is currently Chairman of Hollard Holdings Australia and Pacific Life Re Australia and on the Board of Avant Insurance, Lawcover Insurance and Hallmark Insurance. He is also a member of the World Vision Business Advisory Council.</p>
<h3>ANZIIF Service Award</h3>
<p>Julie Hill, Group Broking Manager for Crombie Lockwood Insurance Brokers in New Zealand was recognised with an ANZIIF Service Award.</p>
<p>Ms Hill began her career at State Insurance, working in domestic and commercial insurance. She later moved into insurance recruitment, winning an IBANZ Award for her company for services to the insurance industry in 2008. In 2010, Julie joined Crombie Lockwood (NZ) Limited, now an Arthur J. Gallagher Company, where she holds the position of Group Broking Manager.</p>
<p>Ms Hill has been involved with ANZIIF since 1994, representing New Zealand and the Auckland region in various capacities. Julie previously served as the President of the ANZIIF New Zealand Professional Development Committee, becoming a member of the New Zealand Member Advisory Board in 2012.</p>
<p>After 20 years serving on Institute Committee’s and Advisory Boards, Julie stepped off the Member Advisory Board towards the end of 2014.</p>
<h3>E E Vines Memorial Prize</h3>
<p>The E E Vines Memorial Prize, an annual prize for the best article published in the ANZIIF magazine, was awarded to Chris Rodd, Technical Counsel at CGU. Mr Rodd’s article, “Section 46 of the Insurance Contracts Act – Is It Defective?” was judged by the committee determining the winner as an outstanding contribution to discourse on the controversial section of the legislation.</p>
<p>Mr Rodd is a part-time lecturer in insurance law at Monash University and a Senior Fellow in the Monash University Law Faculty. He is a frequent presenter for ANZIIF, the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Australian Insurance Law Association and a well-recognised member of international committees on insurance law matters.</p>
