In a first for Australia’s banking and wealth management industries, NAB Private Wealth has entered a partnership with global asset manager BlackRock and its Aladdin Wealth platform.

This partnership will benefit NAB Private Wealth’s advice business JBWere by providing clients with new customised insights about the risk and return characteristics of their investment portfolios aligned to their goals.

Used by leading global wealth managers, BlackRock’s Aladdin Wealth platform allows advisers to model the potential impact of macroeconomic events and market scenarios like pandemics or the recent gold price spikes on client portfolios. The trusted and nuanced analysis can be used to guide informed decision-making.

The advanced risk management and portfolio construction capabilities are set to complement the tailored advice that has been JBWere’s signature strength for 185 years.

NAB Executive, Private Wealth and JBWere CEO Michael Saadie said it was another way to support clients at the highest level with their individual, long term financial goals, particularly in changing markets.

“Clients have been asking for deeper insights into their investment portfolios around risk and performance analytics and we’re pleased we’ll deliver the capability with BlackRock’s Aladdin Wealth platform,” Mr Saadie said.

“While many things have changed since stockbroker Jonathan Binns Were founded JBWere in 1840, the need for trusted and timely advice and analytics hasn’t.

“Our advisers will use the Aladdin Wealth platform to provide clients with more robust and sophisticated portfolio analysis, scenario modelling, and value-at-risk calculations, which are critical for understanding the potential impact of market events on client’s investment portfolios across public and private holdings.”

JBWere Executive Advice, Andrew Bird said the partnership was a pivotal moment in strengthening a 185-year history of providing tailored advice.

“Our advisers will be enabled to elevate risk monitoring across every client portfolio daily. They can better demonstrate to clients how portfolios would react under different market conditions and how to plan for long-term growth rather than short-term market moves,” Mr Bird said.

Chantal Giles, Head of Wealth Australasia & APAC Strategic Clients at BlackRock, said “This collaboration builds on our strong relationship with NAB as we work together to deliver more innovative solutions for Australian investors.

“Technology is increasingly reshaping wealth management and through this offering JBWere will now have access to institutional-quality data and insights to better support their clients’ long-term financial goals.”

James Verner, Head of Aladdin Wealth Tech APAC, said “Through the Aladdin Wealth platform, JBWere’s advisers will gain access to advanced tools for analysing, monitoring, and customising their clients’ portfolios. This will provide deeper portfolio insights, richer risk analysis, and greater transparency and reporting for clients.

“Wealth management continues to evolve to be more personalised and advisory driven, and we are delighted to be supporting JBWere, our first Australian wealth management client on this journey.”

The announcement follows strong year-on-year growth across NAB Private Wealth. JBWere saw a 14.9% increase in funds under management to $48.7 billion, while in Private Banking household lending increased 10.9% to $24.5 billion, and deposits increased 6.9% to $45 billion.

One of Australia’s leading wealth advisers, JBWere, the wealth advice business within NAB Private Wealth, has announced the launch of two new active fixed income products, backed by UBS Asset Management (UBS AM). The new suite of strategies, designed exclusively for JBWere’s wholesale clients, provide access to expertly managed defensive assets at a time of increased demand for sophisticated fixed income solutions.

NAB Private Wealth Executive and JBWere CEO, Michael Saadie said these fixed income funds offer valuable and timely solutions for clients looking to add defensive components to a balanced, multi-asset portfolio.

“These new funds underscore JBWere’s commitment to offering high-quality investment solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients, specifically those wanting high-quality defensive investment strategies,” Mr Saadie said.

“Australian investors allocated a record $6.26 billion to managed fixed income funds in the first half of the year.[1] Now, with the US Federal Reserve easing and inflation moderating, there is a timeliness to clients having access to expertly managed portfolios that deliver both global and domestic exposure and a strong defensive profile.”

The new product suite includes a domestic credit option, the UBS JBWere Australian Credit Fund, and a global credit option, the UBS JBWere International Credit Fund. Both will be available exclusively to wholesale clients of JBWere December 2025.

Partnering with a global expert in active fixed income

After a global search, Mr Saadie said JBWere chose to partner with UBS AM for the launch because of its proven expertise in managing active fixed income strategies.

“Our clients will benefit not only from UBS AM’s renowned investment expertise and oversight in this space but also from the competitive investment management fees we’ve been able to secure for this exclusive product offer,” Mr Saadie said.

“Investors can seek confidence in the heritage and track-record of both brands, and we particularly value UBS AM’s expertise in developing credit products in an environment that is likely to be conducive to solid alpha generation.”

Country Head of Australia and New Zealand at UBS AM, Alison Telfer, said “We are thrilled to have developed this fixed income offering for JBWere’s wholesale clients. These strategies are a tactical investment solution for investors who seek stability and growth in today’s complex market environment, and act as a sophisticated example of how a private wealth advisor like JBWere can work with asset managers like UBS for tailored strategies”.

“The rigorous investment oversight that comes with all of UBS AM’s investment strategies, combined with this initiative’s alignment to JBWere’s Asset Allocation Framework, offers JBWere clients the confidence that they are investing in a top-tier portfolio solution specifically designed for their needs and backed by UBS AM’s local and global expertise”.

The products will be structured as an Australian Unit Trust and will be onboarded to the JBWere Multi-Asset Platform (MAP).

For the fourth year running, NAB Private Wealth has been recognised as the Best Private Bank in Australia at the prestigious Global Finance World’s Best Private Bank Awards for 2025.

The international award recognises NAB Private Wealth’s commitment to excellence in private banking and their expertise in servicing high-net worth client needs across a suite of specialised wealth management services.

NAB Private Wealth Executive Michael Saadie said the award’s focus on excellence in client service reflected the same emphasis NAB Private Wealth gives to all aspects of a client’s experience, whether through the private banking within NAB Private Wealth, the specialised investment advice provided through JBWere and our investment specialists, or the unique capabilities of self-directed investment platform nabtrade.

“Our client-first approach is not just a guiding principle but a differentiator that drives everything we do,” Mr Saadie said. This award is pleasing recognition of our commitment, and we are proud of the leading services and investment opportunities we’ve developed as part of NAB Private Wealth’s unique client proposition”.

“We have a 1000+ strong team of professionals with a strong client service mindset across wealth advisory, private banking and investment services. I believe our commitment to putting our client’s needs at the heart of everything we do every day is how NAB Private Wealth is now recognised as Australia’s most awarded private bank.”

In announcing the award, Global Finance spoke about the qualities that distinguished NAB Private Wealth from its peers: “The winners are not always the biggest institutions, but rather the best – those that individuals rate highly when choosing a provider,” said Joseph Giarraputo, founder of Global Finance. “Excellence in private banking goes beyond financial acumen; it combines a nuanced understanding of clients’ unique aspirations with insightful economic knowledge.”

NAB Private Wealth will officially be awarded alongside other global private bank winners at a ceremony in New York in March 2025.
