Global investment firm T. Rowe Price has grown its Australian equities investment capability with the appointment of investment analyst Chris Wu.

Wu joins T. Rowe Price from Macquarie Investment Management where he focused on Australian large and small cap stocks as an equity investment analyst. His position reports to Ryan Martyn who, following seven years working as an investment analyst with the firm, has been promoted to the role of Head of Research.

The team, which has grown steadily under the leadership of T. Rowe Price Head of Australian Equities, Randal Jenneke, now comprises six investors with recruitment underway for another senior analyst.

Mr Jenneke said the internal promotion of Martyn, the appointment of Wu and additional recruitment plans reflected the firm’s commitment to deepening its investment capability for investors with astute analysts who thrive in a collaborative, research-enabled environment that enriches local views with global perspectives. “We expect that investors seeking risk adjusted returns will increasingly select managers for their ability to source alpha using a global lens, prudent and disciplined risk management and capacity to move quickly,” he said.

“We are tremendously excited and optimistic about the value that our expanded team can bring to Australian investors as they navigate higher levels of volatility and the opportunities this presents.”

T. Rowe Price Head of Relationship Management Australia and New Zealand Murray Brewer said the market support for the Australia Equity Strategy, which surpassed A$2.0 billion1 in assets under management this week, is largely due to the team’s rigorous, steadfast ability to stay its course and its relentless focus on the creation of long term alpha.

Global investment firm T. Rowe Price’s Australian Equity Fund has been added to BT Financial Group’s High Services List (HSL).

T. Rowe Price Managing Director Australia and New Zealand Murray Brewer said the fund’s HSL status is a testament to the quality conviction consistently demonstrated by portfolio manager Randal Jenneke, his team, and their colleagues on the firm’s global investment research platform.

“We rigorously assess every stock through a local and global expert lens in order to identify the potential for growth,” Mr Brewer said.

“In a more globalised investment market, we believe this ability to combine global research and local expertise gives us a discernible edge against competitors and a unique value proposition for portfolios.”

Mr Brewer said adjustments to the Australian Equity Fund fee structure, effective 1 September 2016, make the fund more compelling in a post-FoFA (Future of Financial Advice) environment.

“We have aligned pricing with institutional levels which is very competitive for a high quality core growth Australian Equity Fund,” Mr Brewer said.

T. Rowe Price, a long time investor in Australian equities through its stable of off-shore funds, established a dedicated Australian investment capability in 2010 with the appointment of Mr Jenneke and the launch of the Australian Equity Fund in 2012. Mr Jenneke now manages a team of six analysts and a dedicated trading specialist.

T. Rowe Price’s Global Equity capability managed by Scott Berg is now available on Colonial First State’s FirstChoice platform.

T. Rowe Price Head of Relationship Management Australia and New Zealand Murray Brewer says the addition of the firm’s highly regarded global equity capability provides Australian investors and advisers access to an equity capability that invests across developed, emerging and frontier equity markets.

“Many investors use our global equity capability as the dedicated growth manager providing selective exposure to emerging markets, which is especially relevant where clients cannot tolerate the volatility of a dedicated exposure to emerging markets in their portfolio,” Mr Brewer said.

“We are one of few Global Equity capabilities with access to over 130 equity research analysts[1] located globally, which allow us to access the very best ideas and opportunities for clients.

“Many advisers view that emerging markets are no longer a homogenous asset class and as a result may prefer to use us in their portfolios as a truly global equity growth manager. Fundamental research is our lifeblood and we have been doing this for nearly 80 years,” Mr Brewer said.

T. Rowe Price has been steadily building its Australian business aligning its growth focus with the firm’s founding principle of putting clients first, constructing investment solutions that draw on the firm’s deep global capabilities enriched with local market understanding.

T. Rowe Price offers a range of equity and fixed income strategies across multiple asset classes throughout the developed, emerging and frontier markets; the Global Equity Fund (Hedged and Unhedged), Dynamic Global Bond Fund, Australian Equity Fund and the Asia ex-Japan Fund offerings are available for Financial Advisers in Australia.

The Global Equity capability managed by Scott Berg has successfully raised over A$1.6 billion[2] in assets under management from Australian sourced clients. The firm manages assets of over A$1.04 trillion[3] globally.

Global investment manager T. Rowe Price has launched an Australian dollar hedged version of its flagship Global Equity Fund, the T. Rowe Price Global Equity (Hedged) Fund.

T. Rowe Price Managing Director Australia and New Zealand Murray Brewer said the new Fund allows Australian investors to minimise the impact of the rising Australian dollar on their international investments while accessing a high conviction, truly global equity portfolio.

“Australian advisers and investors well know the importance of accessing international equities, however many have legitimate concerns about the impact of currency movements on their portfolio,” he said.

“The Global Equity (Hedged) Fund seeks to provide investors access to high quality stocks in over 30 countries around the globe, while minimising the impact of currency movements through a hedging overlay strategy.

“The Fund has received a ‘Highly Recommended’ rating from Lonsec and is now available on the Pursuit Select, IOOF Portfolio Service and IOOF Employer Super Platforms.”

The underlying T. Rowe Price Global Equity Fund is managed by Baltimore based Scott Berg and targets companies around the globe with strong and sustainable growth characteristics.

Managing assets of over $US764.6 billion* globally, T. Rowe Price believes bottom-up stock selection supported by proprietary, fundamental research can uncover stock pricing anomalies, and is the key driver of value-added active management.
