TAL is the Plan for Life (PFL)/Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) 2012 Life Company of the Year for the second year in a row.

As well as winning the overall Platinum Award, TAL also took out the Term/TPD Product Award and was a finalist in two other categories: the Income Protection Product Award and the Service Quality Award. TAL was also a finalist for the Underwriting and New Business Team of the Year, one of the new service awards introduced this year.

In congratulating TAL at the Awards ceremony in Sydney today, AFA CEO Brad Fox said that while too many Australians are still uninsured, the range of award winners proves that those who are insured are well protected.

“The incredibly thorough awards process we follow ensures that these awards represent the premier life company awards in Australia,” Mr Fox said. “It’s from this position that we can confirm with confidence that Australian life companies are indeed committed to delivering excellent service and product solutions for Australians.”

Rael Solomon, Manager Marketing and Product Development at Plan for Life said that sustainability is a core criteria. “The PFL/AFA Awards analyse, from both a qualitative and quantitative perspective, the companies in the risk market including the contribution which life companies make to the overall welfare of the life industry,” he said.

OnePath and BT Financial Group were runners up for the Platinum Award.

The AFA launched new service awards this year in conjunction with RiskInfo and the Beddoes Institute to place more focus on the adviser experience in dealing with the claims, underwriting and business development teams.

Mr Fox said that life companies are taking the needs of advisers and their clients seriously and the judging process is turning towards also recognizing the impact companies can have on the productivity of advisers and their practices.

“The new awards ensure that the adviser experience is measured and celebrated,” he said. “As the conduit between the client and the insurer, it is right that we celebrate the excellence demonstrated by those companies that are best at interacting with advisers in the critical areas of underwriting, claims and business support.”
