The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and Finity Consulting are pleased to announce the winner of the 2019 Peter Corrigan Scholarship for Innovation and Leadership.

Michael Gregory, Manager, Portfolio Planning at Suncorp has been awarded the 2019 Peter Corrigan scholarship for a video submission outlining his innovative, data-driven approach to CTP insurance which incorporates the risks associated with ride sharing services.

Michael has been awarded up to AUD$10,000, funded by Finity Consulting, to attend an international conference or seminar program that provides an excellent industry- or leadership-based professional development opportunity.

‘It was very humbling to receive the news from Scott. I was pushed to apply for the Peter Corrigan Scholarship by one of our executive managers within Suncorp who thought it was a good idea for a young leader in the Industry. I took his word for it and to receive the call is very humbling.’

Michael is excited to have the opportunity to travel abroad and learn from other leaders in the Insurance industry.

‘I really hope to be able to broaden my leadership development. Something that I’m passionate about is leading people and I’m doing the best I can to improve that. My aim is to also learn from other professionals about global trends and practices.’

Scott Collings, Principal and Managing Director of Finity Consulting added, ‘We had a very impressive group of scholarship applicants which was very encouraging from an industry standpoint but made it quite a challenge to select a winner. Michael’s entry ticked all the boxes. He showed strong leadership and employed an innovative data-driven strategy in solving a challenging insurance industry issue. His use of the video format certainly impressed, but not only that, it served to emphasise the highly supportive environment he works in which is a credit to his employer. Michael is a well-deserved winner, and we wish him all the best throughout his career in insurance.’

Prue Willsford, CEO of ANZIIF agreed saying, ‘Michael provided unassailable tangible evidence of outcomes and thought leadership in his winning submission.Michael’s winning video was a powerful way of communicating thought leadership, lateral thinking and advanced problem solving. We are excited to be a part of Michael’s learning journey, and to provide him with this unique opportunity to connect, grow and learn from international industry experts. Michael should be extremely proud of his achievements, and for the positive influence he is having on the Insurance industry.’

The Peter Corrigan Scholarship is open to insurance professionals who are current financial members of ANZIIF, are permanent residents of a country in the Asia-Pacific, and currently work in the insurance industry. The Peter Corrigan Scholarship for Innovation and leadership is offered every two years.

“Finity is very proud to sponsor the Peter Corrigan Scholarship for Innovation and Leadership for the fifth time,” said Scott Collings, Managing Director and Principal of Finity Consulting.

“This year, we focus on innovation and leadership, which acknowledges Peter’s key contributions to the industry. The award honours his leadership and drive for innovation by providing the opportunity for an outstanding insurance professional to build international networks and engage in inspirational learning and development.”

The scholarship is offered in memory of Peter Corrigan, one of the most highly respected figures in the Australian insurance industry, who passed away in 2002. During his career, Peter held senior positions in many businesses across the industry and was known for his straightforward manner and wealth of industry knowledge.

“Learning from experts in the field at a significant global conference is an invaluable experience,” said Prue Willsford, ANZIIF Chief Executive Officer. “This scholarship provides a deserving insurance professional the opportunity to continue their development by honing their leadership skills and broadening their knowledge of innovation in the industry.”

The Peter Corrigan Scholarship is open to current financial members of ANZIIF who have permanent residency in Australia, New Zealand or a country in the Asia-Pacific. Applicants must be currently working in insurance and have at least five years of experience in the industry. Applicants must submit a 2,500 word essay in response to the question “How will general insurance in Australia change in the next five years?”

Applications close at 5.00 pm (AEST) on Tuesday 14 June 2016.
