Angwin will work as part of the Sydney-based distribution team, and will focus on retail asset consultants, family offices, private wealth clients and independent financial advisers (IFAs).

Angwin has extensive intermediary and institutional experience and a career in financial services that spans over 18 years. Prior to joining GSFM, he worked as a director at BMO Global Asset Management for eight years where was responsible for building out the company’s intermediary channel. Prior to this he spent three-and-a-half years at AQR Capital Management where he was responsible for establishing its intermediary channel as AQR became a leader in alternative investment solutions. Angwin has also worked as head of distribution at van Eyk. He started his career as a business analyst at Commonwealth Bank.

GSFM CEO, Damien McIntyre, says this latest appointment – the second to the distribution team in Sydney in the past two months – is the result of GSFM’s strong business growth.

“Michael has an impressive track record in business development, and an extensive network that will serve him well in this new role.

“As demand for GSFM’s funds continues to grow, Michael is a welcome addition to the team,” says McIntyre.

Stephen Fletcher, head of retail distribution at GSFM, says Angwin has many years’ experience working in the retail and wholesale intermediary market.

Angwin holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Management from Western Sydney University. He also completed a certified investment management (CIMA) certification at the Wharton School and at Investments and Wealth Institute, and a company directors course, GAICA at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Angwin’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Andrew Koolman to key account manager for the Sydney distribution team.

As a key account manager for NSW, Koolman will oversee client relationships in the region. He will be responsible for nurturing relationships with existing GSFM clients, as well as looking for new opportunities for growth.

Koolman’s career spans over 15 years in the Australian financial sector. He joins GSFM from Arnott Capital, where he held the position of investment specialist. Prior to that he was an institutional account manager at Ellerston Capital. He also worked in private client roles at Bell Potter Securities, and Patersons Securities. He started his career at Morgan Stanley where he was an institutional equities trader.

GSFM CEO, Damien McIntyre, says this appointment is in response to continued strong demand in the Australian and New Zealand markets for GSFM’s strategies.

“Andrew’s 15 years’ experience in the financial industry, in both the client-facing and operations positions, make him a good fit for the key account manager role,” he says.

GSFM has promoted Steven Taylor to national distribution manager, based in Brisbane.  He was previously Queensland State Manager. Mr Taylor has been with GSFM since 2013 and will continue to be responsible for the Queensland intermediary market. He will report to Stephen Fletcher, head of retail distribution.

In addition, GSFM has recruited Simone Newman as a key account manager for Victoria and Tasmania, based in Melbourne. She joins GSFM from Dexus-owned APN Property Group, where she was the head of group marketing and distribution.

GSFM CEO Damien McIntyre says the appointments are a result of strong demand for GSFM’s investment strategies.

“Steven has over 25 years’ experience in retail distribution, and his understanding of the industry as well as his product knowledge are a fantastic resource for our team.  Expanding Steven’s role to include national distribution means that his expertise will be fully leveraged, to the benefit of our sales team, our investment manager partners, and our clients.”

Mr Taylor joined GSFM in 2013 from Challenger Group, where he was state manager, Queensland. Prior to this, he was with Credit Suisse Asset Management, Skandia and Macquarie Bank, where he started his career in 1996.  He holds a Juris Doctor, Law, from the University of Southern Queensland and has an MBA, Management, from Queensland University of Technology.  He has also completed the CPA Program in accounting, tax and financial planning at Deakin University.

Ms Newman has 20 years’ experience in marketing and distribution in the financial services industry.  Her first role was at ANZ in business advisory services and she joined Dexus-owned APN Property Group in 2009. Before being appointed head of group marketing and distribution, she held roles including senior manager, retail distribution and head of marketing and investor services.  She holds a Bachelor of Laws (honours) and a Bachelor of Business (accountancy) from the Queensland University of Technology.

“Simone brings to GSFM a wealth of retail distribution experience from her tenure at APN Property Group. She will be an invaluable part of the retail distribution team as we continue to grow our business,” Mr McIntyre says.

Mr Levinge joins GSFM from Franklin Templeton Investments, where he has held the position of senior manager, institutional sales for the past nine years. At Franklin Templeton he was responsible for raising institutional assets across Southern Australia.

Prior to this he was head of business development for MMC Asset Management. Before moving into business development, Mr Levinge spent over 10 years in human resources management and consulting for a range of organisations including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Westpac, AMP and Clayton Utz.

GSFM has also promoted Mr Stephen Fletcher to head of retail distribution. Mr Fletcher has been with GSFM since 2008, most recently as state manager for Victoria and Tasmania. He will also report to Mr McIntyre.

Mr Fletcher has over 24 years’ experience in the financial services industry, spanning funds management and financial planning. He has worked in funds management business development for the past 15 years and this broad experience provides him with in-depth product knowledge across a broad range of asset classes, including Australian and global equities, fixed income and alternative investments.

Mr McIntyre said Mr Levinge and Mr Fletcher will be responsible for marketing the investment strategies of GSFM’s four local and international fund manager partners – Epoch Investment Partners (global equities), Payden & Rygel Investment Management (global fixed income), Tribeca Investment Partners (Australian equities) and Triple 3 Partners (managed volatility) – to institutional and retail investors respectively.

“These senior appointments will ensure GSFM maintains a dedicated focus of senior staff on servicing clients in the institutional and the retail space,” Mr McIntyre said.

“In line with our business growth goals, GSFM now has funds under management in Australia of $6.4 billion, made up of $4 billion from institutional clients and $2.4 billion from retail clients, and we are on track to expand on this during 2017.

“Charles has a proven track record of success at Franklin Templeton, and his experience in business development and human resources management means he brings a unique skill set to the role.

“With more than eight years experience at GSFM, Stephen brings a solid understanding of the retail business as well as established industry connections to his new position.”

Mr Levinge has an MBA from Macquarie University Graduate School of Business and a post graduate diploma in Human Resource Management from Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Mr Fletcher has a Graduate Diploma of Commerce and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services. He is currently studying towards a Master of Commerce at Deakin University.
