The Insurance Council of New Zealand – Te Kāhui Inihua o Aotearoa (ICNZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) are proud to announce the ICNZ and ANZIIF Scholarship is now open for submissions.

The ICNZ and ANZIIF Scholarship is an annual scholarship that aims to recognise outstanding insurance professionals who demonstrate potential to become industry leaders.

Thanks to ICNZ, the winner will be awarded $10,000 NZ to attend an international conference or seminar program which will provide an excellent insurance industry or leadership-based development opportunity.

“ICNZ and ANZIIF are committed to investing in people and building the next generation of future industry leaders,” says ICNZ Chief Executive, Tim Grafton.

“This scholarship has opened many doors of opportunity for previous winners, significantly contributing to their professional development, leadership skills and industry networks. I encourage all eligible individuals to apply,” adds Prue Willsford, ANZIIF Chief Executive Officer.

To apply, entrants must submit a 2,500-word essay to provided questions on the topic: The capability of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications like ChatGPT to create text, auditory and visual content given prompts and existing data suggests potential applications to many sectors including for general insurance and its value chain. Discuss the benefits and risks for insurers of using this technology to recommend whether to adopt it, and, if so, how, or if not, why not?

Anna is an Operational Risk Analyst at IAG and submitted a winning entry on this year’s topic question: Whether systemic, global risks such as pandemics can be diversified and if the insurance sector should make changes in response to future systemic risks?

Anna will be awarded NZ $10,000, providing her with an excellent insurance industry or leadership-based development opportunity to attend an international conference or seminar program.

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (the Institute) and ICNZ are pleased to announce the opening of submissions for the 2014 ICNZ & ANZIIF Scholarship.

The Scholarship, which involves the submission of a 2,500 word essay on a prescribed topic, aims to recognise a New Zealand insurance professional with outstanding business and leadership skills. It offers a prize of NZD$10,000 to attend an international industry or leadership conference or seminar program.

“We are thrilled to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to a member of the New Zealand insurance community. This Scholarship will not only enhance the winner’s understanding of the industry in a global context but will help them to develop their leadership skills and allow them to represent New Zealand among their international counterparts,” said Tim Grafton, ICNZ Chief Executive.

Prue Willsford, CEO of the Institute, emphasised the role of the Scholarship in supporting up and coming industry professionals.

“Insurance is global business where engagement with developments internationally and excellent leadership skills are indispensable. The ICNZ Scholarship aims to ensure that we foster the next generation of insurance leaders and give them the support they need to develop their skills, knowledge and passion for the industry,” she said.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

• a direct employee of a member of the ICNZ
• citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand
• under the age of 35 years.

The winner will be announced at the 2015 Celebrating Success Awards Dinner in New Zealand.
