AMP Capital Investors today named Simon Ellis as Chief Operating Officer, Infrastructure – Europe.
In his role, Mr Ellis will be responsible for key infrastructure operational matters for AMP Capital’s European Infrastructure team including hedging, risk management, independent asset valuations, debt management and fund reporting. He will also work with the European infrastructure investment team of 11 investment professionals on origination and asset management activities.
AMP Capital Head of Infrastructure, Europe Boe Pahari said he was pleased to have someone of Simon’s experience joining the team based in London.
“Clients both domestically and internationally are increasingly looking for sophisticated infrastructure investment solutions. As part of AMP Capital’s global infrastructure capability of over 60 investment professionals, Simon will play an important role in delivering these solutions,” Mr Pahari said.
Mr Ellis has more than 12 years infrastructure market experience covering both primary bidding activity and secondary acquisitions across a range of assets including transport, social infrastructure and energy.
In addition, he has strong risk and credit related experience. Most recently Mr Ellis was Chief Investment Officer, ING Infrastructure Funds based in London, where he oversaw the Fund’s investment activities.
From 2005 to 2007 he was an Executive Director at WestLB in London leading the bank’s arranging/underwriting activities in the infrastructure sector. Prior to this, he held the role of Director, Project Finance with Hypo-und Vereinsbank for three years where he was responsible for deal origination and from 1990 to 2002 he was Deputy Director, Project Finance at Lloyds TSB Bank.
Mr Ellis commences with AMP Capital on 14 March 2011 reporting to Boe Pahari. The European infrastructure team has access to a constant pipeline of infrastructure opportunities throughout Europe and currently manages a diverse portfolio of high-quality infrastructure assets, including Thames Water (UK), Wales and West Utilities (UK), BAA Toggle (UK), Angel Trains (UK), Alpha Trains (Europe), CLH (Spain), Kenyeri Hydro (Hungary). The team’s strategy is to hold investments for the intermediate and long term, with a focus on both yield and capital appreciation for investors.
