Threadneedle today announces the appointment of senior fund manager John Peta, to lead the firm’s Emerging Market Debt team along with Henry Stipp.
Mr Peta joins Threadneedle from Boston-based Acadian Asset Management, where he was head of emerging market debt, having joined the firm in 2007. Mr Peta brings over 20 years’ experience in fixed income and sovereign analysis, and has extensive expertise in EM local currency debt covering over 30 countries including frontier markets.
Jim Cielinski, Head of Fixed Income at Threadneedle, commented: “I’m very pleased to welcome John to Threadneedle. He brings outstanding experience across a wide range of emerging markets and his appointment further strengthens our established EMD capability, as well as our broader fixed income platform. John’s specialist expertise, particularly in local currency debt, significantly enhances the experience of the team and we look forward to his contribution to our culture of collaboration, discussion and debate.”
Mr Peta will lead Threadneedle’s Emerging Market Debt team along with Henry Stipp, who has been at Threadneedle since 2001. Together they will also lead the eight-strong Emerging Market Macro Economic Strategy Group, which formulates EM investment strategy across a range of Threadneedle’s fixed income products. Threadneedle manages £1.8 billion in emerging market debt.
Mr Cielinski has made a number of appointments to Threadneedle’s global fixed income team, since announcing a restructure in April this year that was designed to enhance collaboration and integration across the fixed income platform and to better respond to changing market dynamics. In June this year Clifford Lau joined as Head of Asia Pacific Fixed Income based in Singapore; and in July Zara Kazaryan joined as Fund Manager, Emerging Market Corporate Debt in London. Threadneedle has also appointed Mindaugas Lepeska as an emerging markets analyst.
In addition to Mr Peta, Threadneedle announces the following new appointments:
- Ms Tammie Chan has joined as a fund manager principally focusing on Investment Grade insurance funds. Tammie brings nine years of industry experience gained in insurance and investment banking, and is an associate actuary. She joins from Pembroke Managing Agency where she was involved in Solvency II projects.
- Mr Ryan Staszewski joins from JP Morgan as a Corporate Credit Analyst within the Investment Grade team, specialising in utilities and securitisation. Ryan has over 10 years’ industry experience including previous roles on the buy-side.
- Mr James Waters, formerly of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, joins as Fixed Income Investment Specialist.
Threadneedle’s Fixed Income team comprises 48 investment professionals across emerging and developed markets, with specialist expertise in investment grade and high yield credit, government bonds, currencies and commodities. Threadneedle manages over £29 billion in fixed income assets (as at 30 June 2012).
Mr Peta joined Threadneedle on 15 October and reports to Jim Cielinski, Head of Fixed Income. He will assume responsibility for a variety of strategic initiatives across the emerging market business, including a focus on local currency debt strategy. Mr Stipp will retain responsibility for hard currency debt portfolios.
