Bennelong Australian Equity Partners (BAEP) has won ‘Fund Manager of the Year’ at the Professional Planner/Zenith Fund Awards, announced on Friday at a ceremony in Sydney.

This award capped what was a highly successful day, with BAEP having also won the ‘Australian Equities – Large Caps’ and the ‘Australian Equities – Small Caps’ awards.

BAEP beat fellow finalists Ausbil and Fairview to win the small cap award, and Fidante/Greenscape and Fidelity to take home the large cap award. All nominees were in the running for the Fund Manager of the Year award, making it a highly competitive playing field.

According to Zenith Investment Partners’ manager assessment methodology, the determination of finalists is based on excellence in the application of a manager’s investment philosophy and process.

“It is an honour to be recognised for these two awards by Zenith and Professional Planner and an even greater honour to walk away with the ‘Fund Manager of the Year’ award, particularly given the high calibre of the finalists,” said Julian Beaumont, BAEP’s investment director.

“The wins today are not only a reflection of the strong and consistent outperformance over the years, but also the continuing diligent effort and focus of the team.”

BAEP manages the Bennelong Australian Equities Fund, Bennelong Concentrated Australian Equities Fund, Bennelong ex-20 Australian Equities Fund and the Bennelong Twenty20 Australian Equities Fund. These funds are managed on behalf of retail and institutional clients, as well as on a pro bono basis for charitable organisations. The firm was established in 2008 as a partnership between Mark East and Bennelong Funds Management (Bennelong).

Craig Bingham, Bennelong’s CEO said, “It’s fantastic to walk away with three awards, having been nominated for a total of six in various categories.

“It is very rewarding to see our boutiques continue to thrive, substantiated by FUM inflows and industry recognition such as these awards.

“Congratulations to BAEP for their wins, and to Kardinia Capital, Bennelong Long Short Equity Management and to Bennelong’s distribution team for being short listed as finalists for their respective categories.”

This is the first Zenith/Professional Planner ‘Fund Manager of the Year’ and ‘Australian Equities – Small Caps’ awards for BAEP, however they had previously won the prestigious award in the large caps category in 2015 and 2012, and short-listed as a finalist in 2013.
