MetLife Australia appoints new Head of External Affairs and Public Policy

MetLife Australia has announced the appointment of Nathan Rees to the role of Head of External Affairs & Public Policy, effective from yesterday.

Nathan joins MetLife from the Finance Sector Union, where he has been Assistant National Secretary for almost four years. He brings more than 25 years of experience in politics, including as former Premier of NSW (2008- 2009), and has worked at both the Commonwealth and State (NSW) levels, as policy adviser and Minister.

His new role at MetLife will include responsibility for working with Government and Regulators to help MetLife, and its business partners, in reviewing proposed legislative change for the life insurance industry in Australia.

Commenting on the announcement, Chief of Staff and External Affairs, Wendy Tse, said: “Nathan brings a wealth of policy experience that will help MetLife further engage with key policy stakeholders. MetLife has a long history of actively engaging with government and policy makers to help build a life insurance industry that provides real value to customers and is sustainable. We intend to keep doing this by building strong partnerships and providing valuable insights through our research and data.

As the industry responds to the need for affordable and accessible advice, we will continue to support advisors and their clients, and will promote the value of life insurance for customers and other stakeholders across the life insurance ecosystem.”
