Private advisory firm eyes opportunity in the West

Katie McDonald

Giles Wales, a boutique strategic, investment and tax advisory firm, has opened a Perth-based office and appointed Katie McDonald CFP as Director of Advisory.

For eleven years, Giles Wade has provided strategic advice to a range of private and multi-family office clients, not for profits and super funds, to create and preserve wealth. Until now, WA-based clients, including not for profit organisations, have been serviced by Melbourne-based team members.

Katie brings over 25 years of investment experience and 18 years of financial literacy education to her role at Giles Wade. She sits on the committees of Financial Toolbox, 100 Women and the Financial Planning Association for Women WA. She is a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and holds a Degree in Business (Finance) and an Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning.

Commenting on the appointment, Giles Wade CEO Liza Janakievski said, “Katie’s appointment and the opening of our new Perth office provides us with a strong platform to deliver strategic advice to high-net-worth and non-for-profit clients in the dynamic, expanding Western Australian market.”

“Katie brings unique knowledge and expertise to her role, along with a passion for financial literacy and education.”

Katie is a regular presenter at events relating to women and finance, and she volunteers as a mentor for the Financial Planning Association and the University of Western Australia.

“I am excited to join an energetic, vibrant business led by strong women, with Liza as CEO and Evergreen’s Angela Ashton as Chair of the Investment Committee.”

“Strong female role models in financial advice are important; the gender pay gap, along with lower average superannuation balance and structural trends that result in men generally being financially better off than women, are issues that concerns me.”

“As a wealth adviser, I believe it’s important to educate; I frequently present at events or run workshops relating to women and finances.”

Giles Wade holds its own AFS Licence and Tax Agent Licence, which enables its team to provide advice across a range of specialist areas to deliver end to end services for clients. The team’s principal objective is to protect and enhance their clients’ wealth, underpinned by tax efficient cashflow, cost minimisation and strong governance. The team also provides pro-bono services to a number of not-for-profit organisations, including a range of indigenous trusts and boards around Australia, including WA.

“I’m delighted to work with Katie and appreciate the integrity and professionalism she brings to her role,” said Liza Janakievski.

“We have some exciting plans to roll out in WA over the coming year and look forward to seeing what we, and our clients, can achieve.”
