Quinbrook, a specialist investment manager focused exclusively on delivering the infrastructure needed for the energy transition, has announced key appointments to its investment team, including a new Managing Director in Australia.

Tim Horneman has been appointed as a Managing Director in Quinbrook’s Australian team, reporting into Chief Executive Officer, Brian Restall. Based in Quinbrook’s Brisbane office, Tim will help grow and execute Quinbrook’s expanding pipeline of projects. Tim brings more than 20 years’ experience in energy and infrastructure investments across gas, LNG, power, renewables, storage and large-scale infrastructure. He was most recently Chief Commercial Officer at LD Energy, an Australian developer of fast-start gas peaking and grid-scale battery storage assets, focused on firming and system reliability.

In the UK, Quinbrook has appointed Tom Wray as Senior Director. Tom is an experienced power industry professional with a strong track record across transaction origination, development, construction and asset management. He most recently led Concentrated Solar Power activities at BrightSource Energy, including project origination and strategy execution. He previously held senior development and investment roles at Drax and AES. Tom’s appointment strengthens Quinbrook’s UK capability as it expands its investment activity, including its first investment in Ireland in 2025 through the Wexford Synchronous Condenser Project.

“Tim and Tom’s appointments reflect our commitment to strengthening our investment capability to capture the opportunities created by the energy transition,” said Brian Restall, Quinbrook’s Global CEO. “Expanding our expertise enhances our ability to source, execute and manage high-quality infrastructure investments that deliver long-term value for our investors. As we progress major projects across Australia, the UK and North America, continued investment in our team supports these ambitions.”

Quinbrook has also appointed Andrew Varvari to the newly created role of Head of Legal, Australia. Andrew brings more than 20 years of senior legal and executive experience at major Australian energy companies including Queensland Gas Company, BG Group and government owned utilities. His appointment supports Quinbrook’s accelerating growth and strategic focus in Australia, including advancement of the proposed Gladstone State Development Area (GSDA) Energy Hub Project, where Quinbrook has signed Memoranda of Understanding granting Stanwell exclusivity over the site and to demonstrate the first 8-hour duration EnerQB Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), developed in partnership with CATL, at Stanwell Power Station.

In addition to these appointments, Quinbrook has made several new hires globally across its corporate and operational teams in recent months, strengthening the depth and capability of the firm to support its global investment strategy.

Global CEO appointment

Brian Restall, currently Quinbrook’s Australian Regional Leader, will transition to the newly created role of CEO of Quinbrook by year end. Brian will assume overall leadership responsibility for the management of all Quinbrook regional teams based in North America, Europe and Australia. Brian has worked for Quinbrook since its founding in 2015, and with the Founders in their predecessor investment management roles since 2011. Brian has more than 28 years’ experience in energy-related infrastructure investments and operating businesses in Australia, the US, Europe and Africa.

Brian has led over US$20 billion of power project development, over US$4 billion in power asset construction and was the inaugural CEO of Cape Byron Power, Quinbrook’s first portfolio company.
New regional leader for North America

Giulia Siccardo joins Quinbrook as Managing Director and succeeds John Lucas, who leaves at the end of the month, as the Regional Leader of Quinbrook for North America. Giulia oversaw the deployment of tens of billions of dollars in investments, building a portfolio of energy infrastructure projects spanning design, engineering, construction and delivery. She also led the development of the National Security Council’s energy supply chain strategy. Prior to her role for the US Government, Giulia spent over a decade as a partner of McKinsey & Co in San Francisco and New York.

“As Quinbrook grows, we have been working to establish a leadership structure that further empowers our people to lead our firm into its second decade and beyond. As Co-Founders, Rory and I are proud of what we’ve built together since establishing the firm in 2015. We believe this new leadership structure equips Quinbrook with exceptionally talented leaders as we continue our journey as a value-add specialist in the energy transition,” said David Scaysbrook, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Quinbrook.

Leadership of digital strategies

Kathryn Lin, a Director in Quinbrook’s North American investment team, has been promoted to Senior Director and leader of Quinbrook’s digital infrastructure strategies.
