Accounting and advisory firm, RSM Australia, has welcomed a highly experienced Partner to strengthen its transfer pricing service offering in Western Australia.

Brad O’Donnell has been appointed International Tax and Transfer Pricing Partner in Perth, strengthening the firm’s expertise in this vital area whilst also providing a compelling and well credentialled alternative to the Big 4 in Perth.

With a proven track record of delivering exceptional results in complex international tax landscapes, Brad is well versed in providing consulting services to large multinational enterprises and managing large-scale projects across multiple jurisdictions.

Drawing on his extensive experience that spans appointments in multiple jurisdictions, Brad specialises in preparing transfer pricing documentation, developing IP strategies and designing transfer pricing policies to align clients’ tax models with business value and ensure timely global compliance.

He joins RSM following 18 years with EY in Australia and the USA, including seven years in San Francisco’s Silicon Valley, where he provided strategic transfer pricing consulting and supply chain services to US-based global technology enterprises.

As the father-of-two steps into his new role, he is eager to continue collaborating with clients from his hometown and hopes to bring a localised approach to Perth.

“I was drawn to RSM through our shared values of supporting clients through integrity and trusted relationships, and due to RSM’s incredible growth trajectory in the Australian market,” Brad said.

“I’m looking forward to supporting Australian-based clients with their international operations and expansion plans, meeting their Australian obligations, and assisting large inbound multinational enterprises navigate an Australian tax landscape that continues to get more and more complex.”

Brad believes his on the ground experience in the US market has equipped him with skills that could provide a new insight to Australian headquartered companies.

“Further, the international tax landscape continues to evolve with regulatory authorities having access to more and more data. My global experience will allow me to bring valuable insight to organisations across all industries as they operate or expand internationally or simply look to meet their complex local Australian transfer pricing obligations,” he said.

RSM’s Managing Partner for the Perth office Alasdair Whyte said the firm was excited to have Brad in their ranks.

“He is an excellent addition to both the Perth and national Tax teams, and we look forward to adding to our successes through this new service offering on the west coast,” Alasdair said.

“With Australia’s ongoing international tax reforms, transfer pricing is a key focus for the ATO, and many of our current and future clients are subject to these specialised and complex rules.”

Brad’s appointment brings total Partner numbers at RSM Australia to 151 and boosts the firm’s international expertise.

Earlier this year, RSM appointed Gavin O’Neill as Director of Corporate Tax in Perth, following extensive corporate and international tax experience at SGS, a large multinational organisation headquartered in Switzerland and prior to that Gavin spent 10 years with BDO within Corporate and International Tax. Complementing this was the promotion of Simon Harcombe from Perth’s R&D Tax Incentives team to Partner. Simon brings a wealth of Australian and international experience in key sectors including resources, technology and biotechnology.

Responding to an increasingly complex corporate risk landscape, leading professional services firm RSM Australia has bolstered its leadership ranks in Perth as part of announcing nine new national promotions, including two new Partners, to in-demand specialist services such as climate and cyber security risk.

This includes new Partner, Catherine Bell, who is joining the national ESG sustainability services team based in RSM’s Perth office. Catherine has extensive experience as a Global Sustainability Advisor both in Australia and overseas.

In response to the increased demand in cyber security services being experienced from clients, RSM has strengthened senior leadership ranks with two senior appointments.

Riaan Bronkhorst has been promoted to Partner in the Security and Privacy services team based in Perth.

The second in the cyber security team is the Melbourne appointment of operational resilience practitioner Kaustubh Vazalwar who joins RSM as an Associate Director. Kaustubh was formerly Head of Technology – Enterprise Resilience at Tabcorp.

In addition to ESG and cyber services, RSM is experiencing a notable increase in the demand for corporate finance services – Stephanie McAuliffe from RSM’s Corporate Finance team has been promoted to Principal in Perth.

RSM’s Perth Office Managing Partner Alasdair Whyte said, “The risks faced by businesses of all sizes are becoming more granular and complex’’.

“Governments, consumers, customers and investors are demanding more information, assurances and disclosures than ever before from companies and business suppliers,’’ he said.

“Whether it’s addressing the growing importance and complexity of ESG considerations in Australia, and globally, or meeting enhanced cyber security obligations if you’re a critical infrastructure owner, or implementing improved systems to protect customer data, no business can operate successfully today without the support of technical business specialists – the risk of not doing so is too great, for everyone.’’

Ms Bell is one such specialist who has made climate-related business risk her professional accounting major, saying a ‘business unusual’ approach was needed to respond to the imperatives of energy transition and climate change.

“These megatrends are ensuing generational and transformational changes to the way we do business, the way we live and the way we work,’’ she said.

“Achieving sustainable businesses and livelihoods is going to require an ‘all hands’ mentality, outside-the-box thinking and an understanding of working together quickly to help solve our collective challenges. It’s no longer business as usual.

“The opportunities the new green economy offer is enormous, particularly as we accelerate the re-design of the economy towards sustainable production and consumption”.
