Leading professional services firm RSM Australia has bolstered its expertise and leadership ranks in Western Australia with five key senior appointments including two internal promotions and a lateral hire with multinational experience.

RSM’s Simon Harcombe from Perth’s R&D Tax Incentive team (Tax Services Division) has been promoted to Partner, along with Tom Hüberli who is in the Business Advisory team in RSM’s Rockingham office.

Mr Harcombe has extensive Australian and international experience across various industries including resources, technology and biotechnology.

Mr Hüberli specialises in business consultancy and taxation, and he is highly regarded for his Swiss pension tax outcomes and expertise in the Defence and Manufacturing sectors.

Adding to these promotions, Gavin O’Neill has joined RSM as Director of Corporate Tax in Perth. He brings extensive corporate and international tax experience having held the position of Regional Tax Director APAC at SGS, which is headquartered in Switzerland, after spending the previous 10 years at BDO.

RSM’s Managing Partner for the Perth office Alasdair Whyte said: “I’m pleased to announce the appointment of these key senior roles, and I welcome their leadership and expertise.

“Notably, the advancement of Simon Harcombe and Tom Hüberli is a testament to their dedication and the immense value they provide to our team and our clients.

Tom started his career as a graduate with RSM and is now an integral part of our Business Advisory team, managing our Rockingham office.

“Also, securing Gavin O’Neill’s expertise, knowledge and talent is a major win for our clients.

“These appointments come at a pivotal time as we continue to expand our presence and enhance our portfolio of professional services in Perth. “We look forward to the value these leaders will add to our firm, as they will play a critical role in achieving and delivering value to our clients.

“These strategic promotions and hires also reinforce our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving needs of our clients and deliver innovative solutions.”

Further supporting these roles are the appointment of Fiona Sherington (Business Advisory in Bunbury) and Liam Telford (Tax Services) as Directors. Ms Sherington also joined RSM as a graduate, based in the Perth office, before relocating to the South West of WA where she supports clients with superannuation and cloud accounting, particularly in the health sector.

Mr Telford is the National Tax technical Director, supporting clients across the country from his base in Perth. He has previously worked at the ATO, BHP (including time spent in Singapore) and professional services.

The promotions are part of 18 new leaders appointed nationally in 2025, bringing RSM Australia’s total partner numbers to 149.
