The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has announced the program for our 2025 New Zealand Liability Conference, featuring a dynamic lineup of expert speakers and hot topics.

The New Zealand Liability Conference is designed to equip insurance professionals with practical insights and tools to navigate the evolving liability risk landscape.

This year’s program features a mix of keynote presentations, case studies, and panel discussions covering a wide range of issues, including:

Navigating claims, disputes, and litigation risks in a changing market

Leveraging AI for fraud detection, and cyber threats in liability insurance

Understanding employment law updates and economic insights

Assessing emerging risks such as product liability and lithium-ion batteries

Mastering difficult conversations and dispute resolution

Attendees will hear from leading voices in law, insurance, and economics, including:

Kris Faafoi: Chief Executive, Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ)

David Friar: Barrister, Mills Lane Chambers

Amanda Halfacree: Head of Financial and Professional Risk, Gallagher

Megan Howe: Head of Claims, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance

Dr. Grant Lester: Retired Forensic Psychiatrist

Rob Merkin: Special Counsel, Duncan Cotterill

Campbell McKenzie: Director, Forensic and Cyber, Incident Response Solutions

Todd O’Donoghue: Principal Forensic Investigator, Halliwell

Janene Paki: National Lead, Financial Adjusting Services, McLarens

Rebecca Scott: Partner, Wotton Kearney

Nick Tuffley: Chief Economist, ASB Bank

Presenting on the topic of cyber risk, Campbell McKenzie highlights the importance of staying up to date on developing challenges.

“Every fraud or cyber incident tells a digital story — but it’s rarely straightforward. The real challenge in electronic investigations isn’t just finding the data, it’s proving what matters. In liability cases, that difference can mean everything.”

Katrina Shanks, CEO of ANZIIF, says: “We’re proud to present such a strong program for the 2025 New Zealand Liability Conference. With so many shifts in the liability space, this event will provide the insights and practical knowledge professionals need to stay ahead.”

The New Zealand Liability Conference will be held at the Hilton in Auckland, on Thursday the 29th of May, with the option for attendees to join online.
