The awards will be open to all sectors of the New Zealand Insurance industry.

‘ANZIIF’s Making a Difference Awards have created a great buzz in the insurance community. It’s been great to see insurance professionals celebrating each other’s achievements on social media and in ANZIIF’s Members Centre,’ says Damian Falkingham, ANZIIF General Manager Industry Engagement.

‘By celebrating the things we do well, we can continue to raise the profile of insurance in the community. We encourage insurance professionals to enter by either self-nominating or nominating a colleague or peer who has demonstrated outstanding professionalism, commitment, achievement and passion in the insurance industry.’

Winners will receive a profile on the ANZIIF Members Center which receives high levels of engagement from all sectors of the insurance industry on a daily basis.

Melbourne-based underwriter ProRisk were awarded the title of Most Valuable team, achieving outstanding customer service outcomes amid last year’s pandemic which resulted in a sudden shift to remote working.

ANZIIF is proud to launch the Year of the Insurance Professional, an initiative for 2021 which is all about showcasing the success of insurance professionals and raising awareness about the great stories we hear every day.

Senior industry leaders actively endorsed the launch, taking part in ANZIIF’s professionalism video series where they described what professionalism means to them.

‘ANZIIF remains committed to lifting the professional standards of the industry and its people in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region,’ says Prue Willsford, ANZIIF Chief Executive Officer. ‘Defining what it means to be an insurance professional and working collaboratively is fundamental to ensuring a sustainable future for our industry.’

ANZIIF is offering a number of exciting initiatives throughout the year, including recognition awards, competitions, free online access to the ANZIIF Journal, and a selection of webinars.

As part of the launch, ANZIIF has introduced the “Making a Difference” recognition awards, which highlights an individual who has gone above and beyond to display professionalism in their workplace, and for their customers.

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance have announced the panellists for the 32nd General Insurance Breakfast which will be hosted virtually on December 02.

Damian Falkingham, ANZIIF General Manager Industry Engagement spoke about ANZIIF’s decision to host the event virtually in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The General Insurance Breakfast has been around for over three decades, and historically is one of the highlights on the annual insurance calendar for industry professionals,’ says Falkingham. We are pleased to be able to host this year’s event virtually and provide a platform for the insurance community to come together to learn and connect.’

This year, ANZIIF will join forces with SURA, Wotton + Kearney and Liberty Specialty Markets to continue to investigate how experiences of workplace inclusion are affecting the insurance industry.

One of Australia’s leading inclusion experts, Dr Jennifer Whelan, founding director of Psynapse Psychometrics, has again been commissioned to explore this important issue. She will also look at how the insurance and risk industry has been affected by COVID-19, including how included and psychologically safe people feel at work in this new normal.

Dr Whelan encourages all members working in the insurance sector to participate in this year’s online survey. “Last year, we took a deep dive into how inclusion is experienced by diverse people working in the insurance and risk industry,” she said. “We found that some people feel more included than others. For example, men, older people, leaders, and people who can do some or all of their work remotely feel a stronger sense of inclusion than others.”

‘With COVID-19 most countries have experienced some degree of lockdown and social isolation requirements, which has vastly impacted the way we work. Our research this year will build on the inclusion themes to also explore how COVID-19 has impacted on our experiences of inclusion at work,’ she added.

The results of Dr Whelan’s research will be presented at the sixth Dive In Festival, which will be hosted virtually worldwide.
