Boutique Australian-owned fund manager, Prime Value Asset Management, has appointed Julia Desimone as Director of Distribution, covering a diverse range of investments across listed equities, property, and alternative assets.

Ms Desimone was previously Investors Mutual’s State Manager for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, and has held previous senior distribution roles with Dimensional Fund Advisors, Centuria Capital Limited, and Ausbil.

She said Prime Value Asset Management had a proven history of investment stewardship, performance and quality across diverse asset classes. “Prime Value is rare, an Australian-owned boutique with a history of playing to its strengths across different investments.”

Ms Desimone said the recent Zenith ratings upgrade for the small cap Prime Value Emerging Opportunities Fund to Highly Recommended indicates the quality on offer at the investment house. “Prime Value has shown it can create best-of-breed investments and add value to investor portfolios. The upgrade is a credit to the small cap team and their long-term commitment to a process which has delivered across market cycles.

“The fund was the only small cap fund upgraded to Highly Recommended and is currently one of very few small cap funds to achieve this rating.”

Ms Desimone says the firm is also attracting interest in alternative assets and property investment strategies. “Prime Value has built several compelling alternative asset offerings, including a very attractive Dairy Trust with some of the best dairy farmland in Australia.

“The firm also has a long history of successful property investment funds. I’m delighted to be representing these funds and look forward to working with the Prime Value team.”

Prime Value CEO, Yak Yong Quek, welcomed Ms Desimone to the role. “Julia has a strong track record of serving the intermediaries market and we believe she will be a good fit with our diverse product offering, and our boutique culture of stewardship and building wealth together.”

Boutique investment house, Prime Value Asset Management, continues to grow its Sydney presence, appointing experienced financial services professional, Nathan Wares, as Head of Distribution, and experienced marketing professional, Kate Mulham, as Head of Marketing and Communications.

Melbourne-headquartered Prime Value Asset Management is part of an investment group including Shakespeare Property Group, which has seen growth in funds under management and now manages over $3 billion in equities, income securities, direct property and alternative assets in Australia.

Nathan Wares has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, starting his career at BT Funds Management in 1992 then including senior roles at Citigroup Asset Management as Vice President of Sales, ANZ Investment Bank as Director of Equity Capital Markets, and Westpac and St George Private Banks as Director responsible for the management of private bankers and their ultra-high-net-worth portfolios.

More recently Nathan was the Managing Director of Australia & New Zealand for a global boutique alternatives asset manager.

Nathan will engage with financial advisers, dealer groups, private wealth firms, family offices and wholesale investors. He will be responsible for distributions covering several funds across asset classes including Australian equities, income securities, direct property and alternative assets across Australia.

Kate Mulham has more than 15 years’ experience in financial services marketing with a focus on global and domestic funds management.
“They have a quality investment team in place which is disciplined, humble, and experienced across many market cycles. It’s a winning combination which has delivered for investors.”

Mr Wares continued, “a great example of the manager’s approach is the small cap Prime Value Emerging Opportunities Fund, which has shown consistency since inception in October 2015 – the Fund has returned 11.5% per annum after fees to investors since inception to 30 June 2023. This fund has shown consistent outperformance while weathering some incredibly volatile market cycles.”

Prime Value Asset Management CEO and co-founder, Yak Yong Quek, welcomed the appointments. “Both Nathan and Kate have the right credentials and impressive track records. We believe they are the right people to help drive our next phase of growth, and they will be a valuable addition to our growing Sydney office.”

Boutique fund manager, Prime Value Asset Management, has appointed former Christian Super CEO, Peter Murphy, to an expanded client services team as the manager targets institutional investors via several alternative asset funds.

Mr Murphy spent almost a decade as CEO of Christian Super, during which time the Fund received several awards and experienced top quartile growth among Australian superannuation funds, with funds under management increasing by 175% and net membership by 65%.

His extensive governance experience includes stints on Macquarie Cleantech Fund’s advisory committee, and the Australian Committee of the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment.

Mr Murphy currently holds other roles including Director and Secretary of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia, and Chairman of the Impact Investment Forum.

He said Prime Value is sharpening its institutional focus after launching several alternative investment options including enhanced cash, agriculture, infrastructure and mortgage funds. “Prime Value’s product suite is wonderfully aligned to the institutional space, particularly those investors considering impact”, Mr Murphy said.

“Prime Value has strong integrity all the way through the business, from CEO Yak Yong Quek to Chairman John Sikkema to all the asset managers.

“It’s a best kept secret in institutional circles at present but has some compelling funds. For example the Prime Value Cash Plus Fund, led by the talented Matthew Lemke, which has quietly performed strongly for nearly five years.”

Prime Value has also boosted its client services team, appointing Andrew Russell as Relationship Manager. Mr Russell brings 25 years’ experience in working with not-for-profits, business and financial services.

Prime Value CEO, Yak Yong Quek, welcomes the new appointments. “Peter Murphy understands institutional investors, he is cut from the same cloth and we think he will be a great asset to Prime Value.

“Andrew will be pivotal in looking after our retail, wholesale and institutional investors, and connecting with new investors.”

Boutique manager Prime Value Asset Management is part of an investment group including Shakespeare Property Group, managing more than $1.5 billion across equities, cash plus, direct property and agriculture investment.
