TAL, Australia’s leading specialist life insurer, has announced that industry stalwart Brad Clarke has joined the company in the newly-created role of General Manager, Corporate Strategy and M&A.
Mr Clarke will work with the managing director, Jim Minto, and the company’s senior management to continue to enhance the corporate strategy.
He joins TAL from Oliver Wyman, where he advised financial services companies across the region on strategy and operations. Prior to that, Mr Clarke held senior strategy roles at AMP and CommInsure, and divisional management roles as the Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle Permanent Building Society and the Chief Operating Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer at Tyndall Investment Management.
Mr Clarke recently co-authored a joint report with Plan for Life, Direct Life Insurance in Australia: Racing Onto the Radar, which predicted that – complementing strong growth in advised channels – 40 per cent of the Australian life insurance market would come from direct sales by 2021.
He has a B.Eng (Hons) in Medical Electronics from the University of Kent, an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and financial planning qualifications.
Mr Clarke joined TAL on 12 November reporting to Kent Griffin, TAL’s Chief Financial Officer.
Mr Griffin said that he was pleased to have been able to appoint someone of Mr Clarke’s calibre to the role.
“We are delighted to have Brad join the team. He has a deep understanding not only of the life insurance and broader wealth industries, but also of TAL from his time as a senior consultant to us. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we seek to grow our business by making life insurance increasingly more accessible to Australians from all walks of life.”
