Colin Woods, former CEO of UBS Global Asset Management, has launched a new investment management business – Pan-Tribal Asset Management.
About Pan-Tribal
Pan-Tribal Asset Management (Pan-Tribal) Pty Limited ABN 35 600 756 241 AFSL 462065 has been in the making for more than a year.
“The philosophy underpinning Pan-Tribal is to source financial products from the best investment managers worldwide that are not currently available in the Australian market,” said Woods.
“Over the past 12 months, an extensive global search and selection process has been underway to identify these talented asset managers, and we are pleased to announce Davis Advisors as the sub-investment manager of the recently launched Pan- Tribal Global Equity Fund”.
“While the attractiveness of the Australian market is globally recognised, the practicalities and difficulties of operating in Australia are often not. I have had discussions with a number of accomplished managers and l look forward to telling you more about them in the near future,” said Woods.
Pan-Tribal intends to build its offering around its clients’ greatest needs, to provide breadth of asset management capabilities across a range of asset classes and investment strategies.
Pan-Tribal Global Equity Fund
The first product released by the new asset management house is the Pan-Tribal Global Equity Fund (ARSN 602 036 153), managed by New York-based Davis Advisors. Davis manages over US$36 billion[1] across a range of equity strategies. Launched late last year, the Fund received an ‘Approved’ rating from Zenith Investment Partners (AFSL 226872) in its annual International Shares Sector Report, released in December 2014.
“There are three key reasons I wanted to work with Davis,” commented Woods.
“1: Longevity – the firm has been successfully managing money for more than 45 years.”
“2: Davis Investment Discipline – this unique investment approach is used to manage all equity strategies and has been successful in consistently adding value to clients’ portfolios over the medium-longer term.
“3: Alignment of interests – The Davis family, Davis Advisors, employees and directors have more than $2 billion of their own money invested across all strategies Davis manages – they believe in what they are doing.”
This final point is an important one. The founders of Pan-Tribal have seeded the Pan-Tribal Global Equity Fund with their own capital, and intend to do this with each subsequent Pan-Tribal Fund, actions not just words demonstrating their belief in the business and the managers they appoint.
“While Davis exhibits an exceptional level of coinvestment, we would expect that any manager we partner with would demonstrate commitment and self-belief by having a reasonable investment in the funds they manage,” said Woods.
“Too few asset managers put their money where their mouth is.”
