Diversity and professionalism the big winners of AFA Rising Star Award

ANZ is pleased to sponsor the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) Rising Star Award for the 14th consecutive year.

The award, which recognises emerging talent in financial advice, is now open to applicants who have practiced as a financial adviser for four years or less. The provision of quality advice, a commitment to education and contribution to the industry and the community are defining qualities of award nominees.

Throughout ANZ’s 14 year sponsorship, almost 100 financial advisers have been through the finalist process, forming close bonds with the other finalists and growing their network of professional relationships.

“The biggest change we’ve witnessed during this time is greater diversity across the nominee pool,” said Don Sillar, head of sales at ANZ Wealth.

“It’s been fantastic to see more women putting themselves forward for the award as well as greater range of ages among the applicants, ranging from those early in their career to those who have made a proactive career change to financial advice.

“We’re very proud of this opportunity to showcase financial advice as a career option to a more diverse audience which will in turn bring broader options for Australians seeking an adviser to help them improve their financial position,” he said.

The AFA Rising Star Award has been recognised as being instrumental in helping those in the early stages of their career in financial advice to develop personally and professionally.

Last year’s award winner, Evalesco financial adviser Mia Taylor said winning the award gave her a platform to help shape the advice industry.

“Winning the AFA Rising Star Award has definitely increased my profile. The award has given me considerable opportunities, where I can tell my story, share my journey and hopefully inspire other new or aspiring advisers.”

Key dates for the award nomination process are as follows:

• Nominations are open from 7 May to 30 June, 2018
• Those nominated in this period must complete their applications by 6 July, 2018.
• The final round of judging will be held on 13 September, 2018.
• The winner will be announced at the AFA National Adviser Conference at The Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast on 10 October, 2018.
