Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) has appointed Garreth Innes as the Head of Australian Fixed Income.

Garreth joined the Australian fixed income team in 2011 and has over ten years’ industry experience. He has a strong background in macro credit strategy and global asset allocation, coupled with extensive research experience across investment grade and high yield corporates. Garreth’s promotion signifies stronger local fixed income leadership while maintaining a robust regional investment management framework under Adam McCabe, Head of Fixed Income – Asia and Australia.

Based in Sydney, Garreth will lead an experienced team to manage Australian fixed income portfolios with an active investment approach driven by fundamental research, while contributing local market insights to ASI’s global fixed income mandates. Leveraging an integrated global platform which offers deep macro and credit research insights, significant regional resources as well as strong local expertise, the team is well positioned to deliver superior investment outcomes for investors.

Aberdeen Standard Investments’ global fixed income team collectively manages A$243bn* for global clients across a breadth of fixed income solutions, with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles fully integrated into all investment decision-making.

Adam McCabe, Head of Fixed Income – Asia and Australia, Aberdeen Standard Investments, said:  “We are delighted to appoint Garreth as head of desk in Australia. Garreth is a highly experienced investor and well known to clients and the broader market. The ability to make an internal appointment reflects the calibre of the local team and our strategy to grow and recognise talents.

“In the current low-yield environment, the Australian bond market offers global investors a diversified source of returns, with relatively attractive yields from defensive, quality credits, and supported by strong economic fundamentals. Our fixed income team has a track record of generating alpha across different market cycles, as evidenced by the growing interest from domestic and regional investors in our Australian bond strategies. Garreth’s appointment further reinforces our commitment to developing innovative fixed income solutions to meet our clients’ evolving long-term investment needs.”
