Merchant Investment Management deepens Australian leadership as advice sector enters new phase

From

Merchant Investment Management (MIM) has appointed Jamie Melville and Eli Glotzer to lead Merchant Australia, its Australian arm, as the firm expands its local leadership amid ongoing structural change in the advice sector.

Advice firms continue to face regulatory reform, succession pressures and rising operating complexity. Merchant said the appointments reflect its focus on supporting firms that are investing in capability, scale and long‑term alignment.

Merchant Australia forms part of MIM’s global private partnership, which provides growth capital and strategic guidance to independent wealth and asset management firms. Since 2016, Merchant has grown to more than 125 partner firms across six countries, collectively managing more than US$330 billion.

Experienced leadership for a shifting market

Melville joins as Managing Director, Head of Merchant Australia, bringing more than 30 years’ experience across wealth management, financial advice and banking. He spent over two decades at Macquarie Group, most recently leading the Virtual Adviser Network within Wealth Solutions.

“The advice industry is at an important point in its development, with firms focused on sustainability, succession and long‑term alignment,” Melville said. “Merchant’s role is to support firms that want to grow with intention, and keep what they’ve built.”

Glotzer, appointed Managing Director, has more than 20 years’ experience across business banking, structured lending and professional services. He previously held senior roles at Macquarie Bank overseeing national portfolios across Financial Services, Technology, Healthcare and Infrastructure. At Merchant, he will focus on structured capital solutions, partner firm lending, and deepening relationships across the Merchant Australia ecosystem.

The pair join Rebecca Wells, Principal and Chief Operating Officer, Merchant Australia, who oversees local operations, governance and execution across the partner network.

Merchant’s long‑term commitment to Australia

Matt Brinker, Managing Partner at Merchant Investment Management, said the appointments strengthen the firm’s position in a strategically important market.

“Australia is a critical market for Merchant. Jamie and Eli bring the depth of experience and alignment that firms need as the sector enters its next phase. The most successful advice firms over the decade ahead will be those that grow with discipline and true partnership. Our model is built for that, founder-aligned, not control-driven.”

The appointments are effective immediately.
