SG Hiscock launches global resources fund to capitalise on AI and energy transition demand

SG Hiscock & Company has launched the SGH ARI Resources Fund, a high-conviction global equities strategy designed to give investors exposure to the structural growth opportunities emerging from the accelerating demand for critical resources.
Managed by global resources specialist Stephen Gorenstein, the fund provides institutional, wholesale and family office investors with diversified exposure to commodities including gold, copper, uranium and critical minerals, while seeking opportunities beyond traditional large-cap mining companies.
The fund targets medium to long-term capital growth and aims to outperform the Bloomberg AusBond Bank Bill Index by 3 per cent per annum over rolling five-year periods.
SG Hiscock head of distribution, Anthony Cochran, said the launch comes at a time when the global economy is entering one of the largest structural resource investment cycles in decades.
“Artificial intelligence is increasing demand for electricity, grids and critical minerals. Governments are investing in energy security, domestic manufacturing and resilient supply chains. Defence spending is rising, industrial policy is reshaping investment decisions and competition for strategic resources is intensifying. These themes are creating significant long-term demand for critical resources,” said Cochran.
“The SGH ARI Resources Fund gives investors access to these structural growth opportunities through a concentrated portfolio of high-quality global resource companies, including businesses that are often overlooked by broader resources strategies.”
The fund combines a top-down thematic investment process with rigorous bottom-up stock selection, focusing on global companies positioned to benefit from structural supply constraints, favourable commodity dynamics, and long-term macroeconomic trends.
Gorenstein joined SG Hiscock in 2025 to establish the firm’s dedicated global resources capability.
With more than 25 years’ experience across geology, mining, investment banking, capital markets and funds management, he began his career with Rio Tinto before moving into investment management. Most recently, he managed the ARI Natural Resources Fund.
“Stephen brings a rare combination of technical geological expertise and deep commercial investment experience,” said Cochran.
“His disciplined investment process, extensive industry relationships and ability to identify quality resource businesses globally significantly strengthens our investment capability.”
The launch follows SG Hiscock’s continued expansion of its specialist investment capabilities with recent distribution partnership with US-based AQR Capital Management to distribute its AQR Wholesale Managed Futures Fund to the Australian market.
