Too often advisers spend time advising their clients on how they can best set themselves up for success in retirement, and leave planning their own retirement to the last minute – selling themselves short when planning their own retirement from their business. All too often, business owners say “I’ll exit in five years’ time” but don’t actually plan it, and all too soon that five years has passed.
Just like any retirement plan, the more time we have to proactively influence the plan, the better. Think:

- Better financial outcomes for yourself
- Less distraction in the day-to-day business operations whilst a sale is underway
