Retirement income products is an exciting area of policy in Australia which requires significant and rapid improvements to ensure the comfortable retirement of the ageing population.

Retirement is complex. The lump sum payments, which have been a prominent feature of the existing superannuation system, are inadequate as a retirement solution to meet the needs of consumers.

Policy reform is underway through the Treasury’s Comprehensive Income Products for Retirement (CIPRs) or “MyRetirement” framework.

But what should the design of these retirement income products look like? And what issues does the superannuation sector need to consider as the market grows?
