Join speaker Joanna Bird, Senior Executive Leader, Financial Advisers, from Australian Securities and Investments Commission
Joanna Bird is the Senior Executive Leader of the Financial Advisers team at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), a position she shares with Louise Macaulay. The Financial Advisers team is responsible for the regulation of the financial advice industry, supervision of ASIC approved external dispute resolution schemes and general consumer protection policy.
Joanna previously worked at ASIC from 2001 to 2009. She was head of the Strategic Policy team for a number of years and also led the team that prepared ASIC’s submission to the 2009 Inquiry into Financial Products and Services in Australia by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services.
From 2009 to 2012 Joanna was an Associate Professor at the Sydney Law School at the University of Sydney, teaching and researching in the area of financial services regulation and regulatory theory and practice. She has also done consulting work for Bapepam-LK, the Indonesian capital markets and non-bank financial institutions regulator and consumer groups in the financial services sector.
Previously, she worked as a solicitor in private legal practice in litigation, banking and finance.
