AMP Capital Investors has announced the key appointment of Senior Portfolio Manager Sonia Baillie to the Fixed Income team, as incumbent Andrew Lally joins the Australian Equities team.

In addition, it has expanded the Fixed Income team with two new roles, appointing Joyce Yu to the role of Analyst and Tim Jarvis as Analyst within the Credit Research and Analysis team. On top of these two new roles we have also recently appointed Steven Hur as Portfolio Manager and Veronica Raic as Credit Analyst to the Credit Research and Analysis team.

AMP Capital Head of Fixed Income Mark Beardow said the growth in the Fixed Income team is due to increasing client interest in the asset class.

“The Fixed Income team continues to expand its depth and breadth of experience, which allows us to meet increasing offshore client demand. AMP Capital has one of the largest fixed income investment teams in the region, with more than 24 investment professionals,” Mr Beardow said

Sonia Baillie has more than 10 years credit market experience and possesses strong analytical, business and financial modelling skills. Sonia joins AMP Capital from Nomura, where she was most recently the Head of Credit Desk Analysts. She has also held roles with UBS Global Asset Management, Colonial First State Investments and Westpac Financial markets.

Ms Baillie will lead the Fixed Income team’s credit research effort, which includes a team of eight credit analysts responsible for security selection across AMP Capital’s $30 billion Fixed Income business. Sonia joins the Fixed Income team on 5 October 2010 and will report to Head of Credit Markets Jeff Brunton.

“Sonia Baillie joins Jeff Brunton and David Carruthers in leading our Credit Markets team and will play an important role in generating great investment ideas for our clients,” Mr Beardow said.
Head of Credit Markets Jeff Brunton said: “We are very pleased to welcome Sonia to the team and with over 10 years credit market experience Sonia will be an invaluable member of the team.”

Tim Jarvis joined the team this month after spending four years with AMP Capital as an investment analyst in the Asian Real Estate Securities team. Based in Singapore, he covered REITs and developers across the region, primarily in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. Prior to this Tim was a Portfolio Manager with Investa Property Group and was group analyst for six funds in the unlisted division. He has also held roles with Jones Lang LaSalle and Bovis Lend Lease. Tim’s responsibilities will be shared between the Fixed Income and Asian Equities team.

Steven Hur joins AMP Capital from Schroders where he was a Credit Analyst, covering mining, oil and gas, gaming, beverages, healthcare and the transport and infrastructure sectors. Prior to that, he worked for Absolute Capital for 2 years as an Investment Analyst. Steven joins the AMP Capital Fixed Income team in September 2010.

Joyce Yu joined the team in February this year after completing the AMP Capital Graduate Program and will have portfolio risk analysis responsibilities.

Veronica Raic joined the team in May as a Credit Analyst. Prior to that, she held the role of Manager – Market Analysis at Westpac. She was responsible for business and competitor analysis, identifying trends and making strategic business recommendations. Veronica has also held roles with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and Commonwealth Bank.

“I am pleased with the calibre of these investment professionals joining our Fixed Income team and look forward to the investment outcomes they will generate for our clients,” Mr Beardow said.

Fixed Income Senior Portfolio Manager Andrew Lally will join the Australian Equities team in October. Andrew will take up responsibility as Senior Analyst for the energy, infrastructure and utilities sectors within the Capital team. As a senior analyst Andrew will also provide further depth and perspective to the Capital team’s proprietary research capability.

We are also currently in the process of recruiting for an additional Portfolio Manager to join the Credit Research and Analysis team within Fixed Income.
