The SMSF Professionals’ Association of Australia (SPAA) is poised to hold the largest and most successful national conference in its 10-year history.
SPAA Technical Director Peter Burgess, who is overseeing the technical content of the conference, says the number of delegates who have registered for the February event is almost double what it was this time last year, and almost all the sponsorships have been taken.
Burgess says: “It’s been an amazing response to date. From our perspective it reflects a number of factors, including the celebration of the organisation’s 10th anniversary and the growing interest in the SMSF sector.
“But I think it’s fair to say that the time and effort SPAA has put into organising a technically challenging program is being reflected in the number of people who have signed up, whether they are members or non members.”
Tim Hewson, Investments Manager, RaboDirect Australia and New Zealand, says: “RaboDirect sponsored SPAA for the first time in 2012 and it proved to be a highly successful way for us to meet new SMSF professionals and also get some quality face-time with our existing clients. Ten months on and RaboDirect is still generating high calibre leads. We will definitely be back in 2013.”
Burgess says the theme for the conference is revolution, a concept many people would not associate with superannuation. “We thought long and hard about using the word revolution, but when you look at what’s occurring in our sector, the change that’s occurring, then it seems the most appropriate word to use.”
In keeping with this theme, keynote presentations will reveal recent SMSF research findings and will cover the latest SMSF strategies and the outlook for global investment markets.
