Global implementation manager Parametric has appointed Sheela Veerappan as Product Manager as the manager continues to build a suite of superannuation clients in Australia with its focus on implementation efficiency and custom investment solutions.

The firm crossed AUD250 billion globally and AUD8 billion in Australia in funds under management earlier this year, with current funds under management globally sitting at AUD295.8 billion (as at 31 October 2017).

Ms Veerappan joins Parametric from Willis Towers Watson where she was responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative research on Australian equity, global equity and long/short managers. She has been actively engaged with the superannuation industry, including the development of tailored equity portfolios for clients, and worked on Willis Towers Watson’s sustainable investment initiatives in Australia.

With over 13 years of experience in financial services she will be a key contact for Parametric’s Australian clients and their stakeholders for investment, strategy and operational needs. This includes managing the growing network of equity managers repositioning to participate in Parametric’s innovative Centralised Portfolio Management (CPM) equity solution

Chris Briant, Chief Executive Officer Parametric Australasia said: “The appointment of Sheela Veerappan is particularly exciting given her wealth of experience both in Australia and overseas, including her experience in manager research.

“She has great technical skills and an enthusiastic, practical attitude and we expect will significantly contribute to the overall strategy, direction and continued growth of the Australian business.  Now that we are becoming known for solutions like Defensive Equities and Systematic Emerging Markets beyond our traditional tax-managed equity capabilities, we value someone like Sheela with an interest in new ideas, a broad range of skills and knowledge of the superannuation industry.”

Prior to joining Willis Towers Watson, Ms Veerappan was employed as a Senior Investment Consultant at Morningstar Asia Singapore, after prior roles working in asset consulting and investment management.

Ms Veerappan holds a Masters of Commerce from UNSW with Majors in Accounting and Econometrics and a Second-Class Upper Honours Bachelor of Arts from UNSW with Majors in Human Resource and Linguistics.

Mr Briant noted “We share some of the organisational challenges of our super fund clients, with a need to really understand the problems our clients face, navigate ever-changing investment conditions and get the ‘business-as-usual’ versus new initiatives balance right.  Like our fund clients, we understand that getting the right people on board is crucial to continuing to meet our own high standards.

“Sheela will make a wonderful addition to Parametric in Australia and we look forward to further collaborative partnerships with super funds with Sheela as part of our team.”
