Aware Super puts data and AI at the core of how it invests with two key appointments

From

Murray Keir

Aware Super has appointed Murray Keir to the newly created role of Head of Investment Innovation and Ganesh Suntharam promoted to as Head of Systematic, as the $248 billion fund sharpens how it uses data, technology and AI in the investment process for its around 1.3 million members.

The appointments come as technology reshapes how markets move and how investment decisions are made. They reflect Aware Super’s focus on staying ahead of that change, so the fund can spot new opportunities early and keep delivering strong long-term outcomes for members.

Chief Investment Officer Simon Warner said the best long-term investors don’t wait for change to arrive.

“Data and AI won’t replace investment judgement, but they will sharpen it. In a world that’s changing this quickly, the edge goes to investors who adapt fastest, and we intend to be one of them,” Mr Warner said.

“Murray’s new role is about bringing innovation, data and technology into every investment decision we make. Change creates opportunity, but only for investors who are ready for it.

“Ganesh inherits a strong systematic business. His job is to build on those foundations, and I have every confidence he will.”

As Head of Investment Innovation, Murray will lead the application of data, technology, AI and process innovation across Aware Super’s investment function.

In his previous role as Head of Systematic Equities, Murray led Aware Super’s internal systematic equity platform, overseeing more than $25 billion across domestic and global markets.

As Head of Systematic, Ganesh takes the helm of the internal systematic equity platform using data-driven, rules-based models to invest across domestic and global share markets.

The appointments are effective immediately.
