Leading mid-tier accounting and advisory firm Nexia Sydney has announced the appointment of Emma Zadow as the new Independent Chair, marking a significant milestone as the firm embarks on its next phase of growth. Ms Zadow succeeds Stephen Purcell, who steps down after five years in the role.

The appointment underscores Nexia Sydney’s commitment to enhancing leadership and advancing its growth plans.

Ms Zadow brings a deep experience and a proven track record in the professional services sector. With a strong background in strategy and business growth, including leadership roles across legal, advisory and not-for-profit sectors, Ms Zadow is well-positioned to lead Nexia Sydney through its next chapter of expansion and innovation.

“I’m very excited to be joining Nexia at such a pivotal point in its growth journey,” Ms Zadow said. “The firm has made impressive progress and is clearly motivated to pursue ambitious goals which resonates strongly with me.”

“I’m fortunate to build on the strong foundation established by Stephen. My immediate priority is to listen and learn, to deepen my understanding of the firm’s culture and potential, and then work closely with leadership to help shape and amplify the strategy that is already underway.”

Ms Zadow is a Non-Executive Director of Morrison Low Holdings, WT Partnership and Barnardos Australia, and serves as Chair of Law Partners.

“As someone who has spent my career working across professional services, putting people and clients at the centre of what we do is fundamental,” Ms Zadow said. “My focus is on building the right structures and culture to support both.”

Outgoing Chair Stephen Purcell, who was the first independent Chair appointed by Nexia Sydney, welcomed Ms Zadow’s appointment.

“I was delighted to be appointed the first independent Chair of Nexia Sydney five years ago. Since that time the firm has grown strongly and improved its market positioning. The firm will be in good hands with the appointment of incoming Independent Chair, Emma Zadow, and will continue to go from strength to strength,” Mr Purcell said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mr Purcell said, “I’m pleased that during my time at Nexia Sydney I was able to assist the firm navigate through the COVID pandemic, enhance the firm’s strategic focus and planning, manage the transition to a new Managing Partner, encourage and actively support increased diversity, particularly at senior levels, and put greater emphasis and structure on key client relationships and management.”

“At Nexia Sydney, we’re deeply committed to building a firm that reflects the talent, and potential of our people at every level”, said Andrew Hoffmann, Managing Partner at Nexia Sydney.

“Representation in leadership matters, not only because it reflects our values, but because it strengthens decision-making and drives better outcomes for our clients, our people, and our community.”

“I want to thank Stephen for his leadership over the past five years. His steady hand and strategic perspective have helped us navigate key transitions and set a strong foundation for the future.”

“This appointment comes at a pivotal time for the firm and Emma’s insights and experience will be instrumental as we continue to evolve our business.”
